The best compact digital camera for travel?

I'm going to spain this summer and I want a high quality but small enough camera to bring.
What brand do you prefer and WHY? I want a camera that takes good pictures in low lighting (im sure ill take pictures of hotel rooms or in cool resturaunts- as well as at home of my beautiful dog or whatever),
and fast shutter speed, and a good zoom. It also needs to take videos.

I'm not too worried about all the 'waterproof, un breakable, navigator' type of travel cameras as im just going to be walking around spain. Im just looking for quality pictures. My ultimate dream would be to bring around a big SLR nikon d60 or something but... thats way to big. i need a small camera.

so what is the best camera and WHY? pros and cons!

how to fix my olympus camera?

i have the olympus stylus 790 sw shock and waterproof camera and without the flash it takes pictures fine. but it wont take pictures with the flash when you try to take pictures the flash sign is red and blinking. how can i fix it?
