Megan
I'm about to go on a big family vacation in panama city, Flordia. This will be the second time the whole family has gone and for the first time my sister and my two year old nephew, one year old niece, and two of my second cousins (between 5 and 9 years old) will be going. I absolutely love taking pictures, I am one of those people who can't take enough. So I definitely need to have a camera with me during this vacation. Basically we will be on the beach and at the pool the majority of the time (pretty much every minute that we arent eating or sleeping) so I'm really interested in something water proof.
I have a digital camera already but it isn't water proof. It is a canon powershot SD1400 IS 14.1 mega pixels. I've had it for about a year and a half and love it and don't want to ruin it. I know they say you really shouldnt take your camera on the beach because the sand completely ruins it. We did this vacation 5 years ago and I had a different digital camera then that I took on the beach and it seemed to be fine after word.
I'm thinking about getting a disposable waterproof digital camera (more like 4 of them if I choose that option) I'm not sure if this would be my best bet I've seen mixed reviews some people had good luck with the way their pictures turned out others didn't. Does anyone have a disposable waterproof camera that they recommend? I know the run between roughly $9 to $16 then you have to pay to get them developed and/or get a cd for digital copies (which I would want to do) so idk if it's worth not know what my pictures will turn out like for the price. I know I'll have family members with their cameras too (they'll bring there very nice expensive cameras) for pictures just on the beach so if the pictures from the water didn't turn out I'd still have other vacation pictures (but I would really love some of my own). So basically yay or nay on the disposable and which one do you recomand if yay?
Another option would be buying a waterproof digital camera. I don't really want to spend a ton of money on another camera. My friend got a Fiji film one last year and had issues with it not staying completely sealed and water getting into the camera, so I'm not sure how I feel about them for the price. Any good recomandations on this? I don't own a pool or anything so I wouldn't be using it every day when I'm not on vacation. I love water activites like canoeing and we have a boat but realistically we don't get to go out on it too much with our busy schedules so I would get use out of the camera just probably not as much as I would like to.
Another option would be to buy a waterproof case for my current cannon (powershot sd1400 Is). I'm not sure I they carry one for this camera or how well it would work. I recently bought a groupon for a water proof phone case, it's basically like a little bag you slide your phone in and it seals up. I was soooooooo nervous to put it in the water at first (I have the iPhone) I didn't want to ruin my expensive phone and have to buy another but it ended up working well and I love it for the pool and any time I'm around water with my phone. I can take pictures with it but the qualities only as good as an iPhone photo and you can't use the flash. So if anyone knows anything about waterproof cases and how trustworthy they are. I know I'd be terrified to try it but id feel a little better about it since I have the phone one now.
So basically...
Disposable waterproof cameras?...
New digital waterproof camera?...
Waterproof case for my current digital camera? Or any other ideas suggestions?
I'd also love if anyone has any good recomandations on brands and such
Thanks guys!

No body reads that long of post...
It seems like buying a waterproof case costs more then the camera. And you are only going to use it once a year?
Looks online you can buy like water poof bags for your camera. I have never tried them, but probably the best option.
