Wolfers, C

I am looking for a tripod under 30 dollars. It has to be compatible with the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 12 MP Waterproof Digital camera. I would only be using it to record videos around the house and would be sitting in one area. Thanks!

Answer
Well, any tripod is compatible.

Under $30.. anything that doesn't fall over by itself will do.

How can I keep my audio and video in sync?

I have a 'Kodak Play sport' waterproof film camera that I have recently been trying to film on. The film quality is brilliant, and the audio quality fairly good, but only on the camera. When I import it onto my computer, the audio and video in both WMP (Windows Media Player) and WMM (Windows Movie Maker).
Any suggestions on how I can:
a) Remove audio lag using WMM.
b) Stop audio lag altogether on my camera.
c) Suggest an alternative free media editing suite to do a) with.
Thanks,
MiJ.

Answer
Clarification: You are "filming". There is no *film* involved. The digital video (and audio) device you are using captures video.

As you indicated during playback, the audio and video are in synch. When the media file is transferred to the computer, the audio and video are not in synch. This symptom (also sometimes referred to as being "glitchy", is *usually* due to the computer for one or more of the following reasons:

* The computer's CPU is underpowered for dealing with the video recorded.
* The media player cannot deal with the video.
* The computer does not have enough RAM.
* The computer does not have enough available hard drive space.
* The computer is doing other work using CPU cycles that the video needs to play properly.

For playback only, try VLC player from http://www.videolan.org/ as it is more robust than WMP. As for editors - in the Windows environment, Sony Vegas usually floats to the top... But not knowing the computer environment makes this a SWAG...

You should buy Kodak PlaySport (Zx5) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera - Black (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Shockproof, dustproof, and waterproof up to 10 ft
Kodak's Share button lets you choose your favorite sharing destination, e-mail address, or Kodak Pulse Display
Full 1080p HD videos and 5 MP HD stills, with auto focus

On-camera editing

What Pocket Camera Should I buy out of these 3?

Michael

Samsung HMX-U10
or
Panasonic HM-TA1
or
Kodak ZX1

May use will be for videoing while on holiday. I am currently favouring the Kodak model because it takes AA batteries so easy to switch out if run out of battery, but its only 720P unlike the other two which shoot in 1080P.

So which one would you recommend?
I do have a low budget of around $100 USD.

I am going to Costa Rica for 2 weeks over the summer and i'll be doing things like learning to surf and other activities. I want a camera that is durable and will last me the whole trip and a while after. It can't just be durable though, I want high quality pictures too as Costa Rica is a once in a lifetime experience. I just want to know some personal opinions on what worked for them, within a reasonable price range like $200-$300.

So I 2012 summer is coming fast and I really need a waterproof camera for all the amazing adventures I am going to be doing. I looked on amazon.com but most of the really nice ones had bad reviews about how they don't really work under water! I need a real person who has had experience with waterproof cameras to please help me! I really love taking pictures and have always had a passion for photography. <3 I love it with all my heart and I don't seem to know anybody who has a waterproof camera. PLEASE HELP ME. I'm 15 and having an awesome summer (NO SCHOOL) is what everybody wants. You know what I mean? My 2012 summer has to be awesome. Please help me!

Answer
one drop of water on your camera electronics means disaster, so don't do the "do-it-yourself" projects. A great camera that is rugged, compact, and waterproof is the Olympus Stylus 550WP. That is a camera that i had before giving to a friend, and was well pleased with its performance.

Best choice point and shoot ($300-$450)?

I am looking for a good camera for indoor pictures. I have 3 little kids and take a million shots indoors, but the little $100 camera I have doesn't take decent pictures. I've looked into it a bit and have found a few with good reviews and decent picture quality. The few I've looked into:

Olympus TG-1iHS 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Optical Zoom and 3.0-inch LCD (Black) (2012 Model)
Nikon COOLPIX P310 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4.2x Zoom NIKKOR Glass Lens and Full HD 1080p Video
Nikon COOLPIX L810 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 26x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and 3-inch LCD (Red)
Fujifilm XF1/Blk 12MP Digital Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Black)
Olympus XZ-1 10 MP Digital Camera with f1.8 Lens and 3-Inch OLED Monitor (Black)
Canon PowerShot SX260 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Image Stabilized Zoom 25mm Wide-Angle Lens and 1080p Full-HD Video (Black)
Panasonic DMC-FZ150K 12.1 MP Digital Camera with CMOS Sensor and 24x Optical Zoom (Black)
Nikon COOLPIX P510 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 42x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and GPS Record Location (Black)

I was wondering if anyone had one of these or a decent knowledge of them and could advise me on which would be best for what I'm looking for. Or another suggestion of a camera that takes good indoor pictures. I work a lot in low light and with fast kids. I'm not expecting a miracle - point and shoot cameras can only do so much, but... Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
Nikon and canon make quality cameras. They will give you a camera that will last. Most of these cameras will brake easily, but canons and nikons won't. You can choose any from these two companies.

Which is a better camera for videos?

SolidSnake

My friends and I want to make movies/videos for YouTube and Ive been looking for a fairly priced camera. I'm confused which one is more ideal: a digital camera or a camcorder. The digital camera I'm looking at is 16mp and records in 720p. The hand held camcorder takes stills at 5mp and records in 1080p. Theyre the same price. I guess that it all depends on if I also want take pictures or not, but my main concern with the camcorder is will it be in full ratio/resolution if I upload it to my computer, and eventually onto YouTube? Thanks, hopefully I didn't sound confusing, haha.

Answer
I am just giving you a opition I guess, you can get the Kodak PlaySport Zx3 or Zx5. They take good well actually great video! It has WVGA, 720p, 720p 60 fps, and 1080p. The Zx5 has better video quality and the Zx3 has a little better sound. They are waterproof. But the Zx5 is dustproof and shockproof. The Zx3 has a external battery you can take out. The Zx5 is internal and you have to send it in to replace the battery. I have the Zx5. I love mine. The Zx3 has a Mini HDMI cable that it comes with one and the Zx5 has a Micro HDMI cable that doesn't come with it in the box. In the box is a paper that you can register you camera for free. I got mine for free. Shipping may apply where you live, it can be free or not be free. The Zx3 comes with an AV cable. The Zx5 does not. The Zx3 has more accessories that comes with it than the Zx5 does. Also it has a reset button the Zx5, but I think it may have a reset button on the Zx3 but I don't know. You can buy a remote for them too and floating wrist strap or lanyard. Or however you spell it. They both hold up to 32GB SDHC or just SD cards. It needs to be class 4 or higher. I have a couple of them. 2 8's, 2 4's and a couple more. So yeah. This is a great camera to use, if you don't want that, get the Kodak PlayTouch. It's a good camera too except that it's not waterproof. But hey. They come in cool colors too! The Zx5 has DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) and the Zx3 has EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) that you can turn off and the Zx5, you can't turn it off. The Zx5 is better on that one. They are great cameras, takes 5.1 Megapixel pictures too! If you want more details, type Kodak Playsport Zx3 or Zx5 manual.

The camera I remember is held vertically. It has 3 models and records in HD. It is also a "rugged" camera, so it can go underwater up to 9 feet on one of the models. It records in 14.1 (or 14.2, can't remember) or 16.1 (or 16.2) depending on the model. I believe te model comes in either blue orange or black. If you could please assist me if anyone knows which camera I am describing. I am positive it is held upright with your hand (looks like an upside down L) when held because the screen flips out.

How do you make a Thermal Imaging Camera?

waterproof your camera diy on ... -EPCWPC Point Of View Sport Camera Clear Weather Proof Camera Casing
waterproof your camera diy image

Karjava

Is it even possible to DIY?

Answer
A thermal imaging camera consists of five components: an optic system, detector, amplifier, signal processing, and display.[1] Fire-service specific thermal imaging cameras incorporate these components in a heat-resistant,[2] ruggedized, and waterproof housing.[3] These parts work together to render infrared radiation, such as that given off by warm objects or flames, into a visible light representation in real time. The camera display shows infrared output differentials, so two objects with the same temperature will appear to be the same "color".[4] Many thermal imaging cameras use grayscale to represent normal temperature objects, but highlight dangerously hot surfaces in different colors.[5]
Cameras may be handheld[6] or helmet-mounted.[7] A handheld camera requires one hand to position and operate, leaving only one free hand for other tasks, but can be easily transferred between firefighters. The majority of thermal imaging cameras in use in the fire service are handheld models.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology Fire Research division is the lead government agency developing performance standards for fire service thermal imaging cameras in the United States, although the U.S. Army Night Vision Laboratory has contributed to the effort.[1] Preliminary recommendations from the field include visible low-battery warnings, ability to withstand full immersion in water, and the ability to provide meaningful visual readouts beyond 2,000°F (~1,100°C).[8]

Looking for outdoor wireless surveillance camera?

whereissta

Hi, I need a really good surveillance camera. I need it to be, waterproof, wireless, infrared, 24 hr record, can send alerts to email, vandalize proof, easy to hide, and affordable. Please let me know if you know of any good ones thank you.

Answer
It would be best to call the local security/surveillance companies. With everything you are wanting it can be complicated to setup (especially if you have never done it before). Here are some DIY systems... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Surveillance-Video/ci/3496/N/4293342959

Everything you're wanting is possible, but will be limited by your definition of "really good" and affordable. Some people consider $100 affordable while others think $5000 is.

A vandal proof housing will be waterproof, but they are not cheap and not easy to hide.
24 hour recording will depend on the capabilities of the recording system you connect it to.
Alerts to email...depends on the recording software (or hiring someone to provide 24/7 monitoring)

i am looking for a simple camera or camcorder. I want to video tape either from my handle bars my helmet or me holding it. I would like it to stand up to vibrations. if its a camcorder must be able to take stills and if a camera must be able to take video . also price isnt a thing but like 200 to 400 is ohk.

Answer
I have a Tachyon XC. I purchased it for whitewater rafting, but it's proven itself useful for many things(biking, paintball, hunting, and mud riding are among them). It's waterproof, decently tough, and can record a constant 10 hours on a set of lithium AAs(assuming you have a large enough card for it). The sound isn't too great, but that's part of the tradeoff of having a waterproof camera. It doesn't compensate for vibration, but I've seen few problems with it. If you want something that won't break on you, this is a nice option. If you want amazing video/sound, you might want something different.

You can buy an underwater camera (10m) with a built-in GPS for under $350

I want to buy a waterproof camera for a project I am doing. I honestly don't know much about them or where to get one. I really don't want to spend a lot but I want a great camera for amazing photos and I am willing to change my price range which the highest at the moment being $600. it would be great if you could tell me about them, where to get them, what is the best to use, etc. I would really appreciate it.

Answer
There are inexpensive waterproof cameras that cost as little as $125 like the Nikon Coolpix S31.

There is a Nikon Coolpix AW-110 which includes GPS, WiFi and can operate deeper than the S31. 18 m for 60 minutes vs. 5 m for an unspecified time

Sure, you can buy a $300 P&S camera and a $300 underwater housing, but then you will have your underwater camera in two pieces that must be combined when you dive.

Canon, Olympus, Pentax also make such underwater cameras. The cool thing is that they are also shockproof and cold weather proof in some cases.

Spend some time on those websites and see which of those companies make the camera that is best for you

Can you help me find a cheaper camera like this?

ZEBRAS!

This is a waterproof camera that can be attached to bikes, motorcycles, other vehicles and pretty much anything you can think of. This is exactly what I'm looking for BUT they want $500 buck for it!

Can you help me find a P.O.V Camera like this (for a moped)?

Keep in mind, it does not have to have all of the high-tech functions that this one has.

I'm just looking for one to strap onto my moped and make my own videos with.

But I need something that's going to be able to travel long distances with me.

Not just your average digital camera or a webcam.

I do have a power inverter if you find any that aren't wireless.

Send me the link(s) please for best answer.

Answer
There are 2 models in that Camcorder. One in photo is the expensive one because it has few more features like GPS and underwater casing. it has a cheaper model called Contour ROAM2 cost you less than $200 at Amazon (if you are in USA). If can't get it from Amazon check it in local camera stories.

How do you take pictures underwater? What equipment do I need?

crazzeemon

I am going to the Flordia Key in two weeks. I know all about the camera water casing (they cost alot). I was thinking about buying desposible underwater cameras, but my instructor that the cameras would not take good pictures. I own a Digital SLR camera, but I think it would be risky to bring it underwater, even with a covering. Should I buy a waterproof digital camera (Camera types?)? Any solutions (Not requiring loads of money)?
Also, is there any "rules" to taking pictures underwater? Lastly, is there any procedures to taking good pictures underwater?

Answer
Rubbish. A disposable will be OK if you're only snorkeling, but the photo quality royally sucks (underwater only). I tried using 30(?) meter disposables on 10 dives in Cozumel and NO underwater photos were even a little acceptable.

You reference an instructor, so we can assume that you are diving. Most budget conscious divers go to Leisure Pro for their non-life-supporting accessories, but even there you will see housings aren't cheap. Best bet is to hold off on photography until you can drop the $200 on a good, reliable housing for your digital cam.

Rules- Always be aware of your surroundings. You and your buddies safety is first, getting a shot of the mermaid is a distant second.
It's all about the light. Read up on how to photograph underwater without a strobe (the Net is peppered with articles). If by 'rules' you meant 'laws' regarding photographing underwater, the answer is "if you can see it, you can photograph it" (unless diving Area 51).

Good luck!

What to do in South Florida? (Coral Springs)?

underwater camera yacht on LCD Screen for Underwater Video Camera System & Fishing Camera System

Yndii

Me and my mum are going to South Florida in the summer of 2011 and we wanted to know whats fun down there. We were going to spend allot of time in Fort lauderdale, Plantation, and Coral Springs. Any advice on what to do to enjoy my time?

Answer
The summer weather is intense and oppressive in South Florida. So for indoor stuff, the best shopping spots are at the gigantic Sawgrass Mills Mall located at W. Sunrise and N. Flamingo in Sunrise. Also for a bargain, visit the popular Festival Flea Market located at the junction of the Florida Turnpike and W. Sample in Pompano Beach.

An afternoon relaxing on the beaches along Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Deerfield Beach are good. They have great piers and nearby shops/eats.

Boomers, located next to I-95 in Dania Beach, is a huge family entertainment place with enough arcade games to make you drool. Not to mention a great go-kart track and wooden roller coaster. The place is packed with a younger crowd, but mom should be ok.

If you have passports, consider a one or two day cruise from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas on the cheap. If you don't ride the cruise ships, you can watch them and the big yachts, at John Lloyd State Park along the shore at Fort Lauderdale.

You might want to experiment with snorkeling, and the Florida Keys are full of fantastic underwater experiences with the coral reef and colorful tropical fish. Check out the little state parks along the keys for the best time.

There's several local parks in the area that have nice nature trails, but the morning is the preferred time to visit. Check out Markham, Fern Forest, and Tradewinds Parks.

If alligators in the wild are on the list to see, ride up to Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge along US 441 in Boynton Beach and take a morning walk in the refuge. Guaranteed alligators and big long-necked tropical birds so bring the camera.

Did anyone die making Thunderball?

Dr. Steve

So much of it was shot underwater. Someone must have been injured.

Answer
Reginald Beckwith, who plays the minor part of Kenniston, died while filming for this movie was still going on. His scenes were already shot, but it was to be his last part and he never saw the result of it.

Here's information about the dangers of filming, but no one was injured or killed:
The most difficult sequences to film were the underwater action scenes and the first to be shot underwater was at a depth of 50 feet to shoot the scene where SPECTRE divers remove the nuclear warheads from the sunken Vulcan bomber. Peter Lamont had previously visited an Air Force base carrying a concealed camera which he used to get close-up shots of the secretive missiles and those appearing in the film were not actually present. Most of the underwater scenes had to be done at lower tides due to the sharks in the Bahamian sea.
Connery's life was in danger in the sequence with the sharks in Largo's pool and one which he had been in fear of when he read the script. He insisted that Ken Adam build a special Plexiglas partition inside the pool but, despite this, it was not a fixed structure and one of the sharks managed to pass through it. Connery had to abandon the pool immediately, seconds away from attack. Another dangerous situation occurred when special effects coordinator John Stears brought in a supposed dead shark carcass to be towed around the pool. However, the shark was not dead and revived at one point. Due to the dangers on the set, stuntman Bill Cummings demanded an extra fee £250 to double for Largo's sidekick Quist as he was dropped into the pool of sharks.
The climactic underwater battle was shot at Clifton Pier and was choreographed by Hollywood expert Ricou Browning, who had worked on many films previously such as "Creature From the Black Lagoon" in 1954. He was responsible for the staging of the cave sequence and the battle scenes beneath the Disco Volante and called in his specialist team of divers who posed as those engaged in the onslaught. Voit provided much of the underwater gear in exchange for product placement and film tie-in merchandise. Lamar Boren, an underwater photographer, was brought in to shoot all of the sequences. United States Air Force Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Russhon, who had already helped alliance Eon productions with the local authorities in Turkey for "From Russia With Love" 1963 and at Fort Knox for "Goldfinger" 1964, stood by and was able to supply the experimental rocket fuel used to destroy the Disco Volante. Russhon, using his position, was also able to gain access to the United States Navy's still-experimental Fulton surface-to-air recovery system, which was used to lift Bond and Domino from the water at the end of the film. Filming ceased in May 1965 and the final scene shot was the physical fight on the bridge of the Disco Volante.
While in Nassau, during the final shooting days, special effects supervisor John Stears was supplied experimental rocket fuel to use in exploding villain Largo's yacht, the Disco Volante. Ignoring the true power of the volatile liquid, Stears doused the entire yacht with it, took cover, and then detonated the boat. I have a Nikon D90 and a D50 but sometimes you just can't take them everywhere. I am looking for a small point and shoot to carry with me wherever I go.

- compact
- 8+ MP
- waterproof would be awesome
- any brand as long as it takes quality photos
- NO DELAY! (thats the problem with my point and shoot now)
All cameras obviously have SOME delay... I'm just looking for one that has very litte... along with being compact (thin) and takes quality photos

Answer
Stock answer alert: This was written over a year ago, but it might help you.

If you pre-focus by pressing the shutter button half-way down while aiming at your subject - or where you anticipate your subject will be when you want to take the picture - it will help considerably. You can set your camera in "Sport" mode or "Scenery" and this will minimize the lag. If you do not use the flash, it will help. If you turn off "face detection," it will help. If you turn off the LCD monitor and use the viewfinder only, it will help. If you use the continuous shooting mode for a burst of 4 or 5 shots, there will be no pre-focus in between those shots. For most point and shoot cameras, this will give you 1.5-to-2 frames per second, but you can't use flash.

Some point and shoot cameras are better than others. I have a Canon Powershot SD950-IS that seems quite fast to me. If you go to http://www.dpreview.com and read the reviews (once they are available for the cameras you are considering), you can go to the page called "Performance" and see exactly what the tested shutter lag is, as well as several other performance benchmarks.

Here's a link showing a chart of various cameras and their shutter lag as well as the time it takes to shoot five frames. You will not see any DSLR's listed, because they have no shutter lag. If you click on the column heading, such as "One Shot," the chart will sort according to that measurement.
http://www.cameras.co.uk/html/shutter-lag-comparisons.cfm You may have to go to http://www.dpreview.com and look around to figure out what the Canon IXUS designations compare to for non-European models if you are not in Europe.

Here's a list of four good cameras with brief shot-to-shot delays of less than 1.5 seconds (in good light) each: http://www.cnet.com.au/digitalcameras/cameras/0,239036184,339271492,00.htm

Waterproof point & shoot camera...?

Stu D'Appl

I'm looking for a waterproof point & shoot camera to use primarily when we're out surfing, but also as a pocket camera. I'm looking at the Sony TX5, the Olympus MJU 6010 and the Canon D10, but wondered if anyone had any other suggestions or experience of these types of cameras. my budget is up to £250.

Answer
Among those choices, for a camera that you expect to get wet but will not take very deep the Sony TX5 may be a good choice.
Here is a review
http://www.photographybay.com/2010/03/06/sony-cyber-shot-tx5-hands-on-review/
It's advantage is the 10 MP CMOS sensor that will give you less noise or artifact as you turn up the ISO to capture action. It will also give you better video.

I have one concern about this camera. As seen at
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsc-t-series/dsc-tx5/tab/technicalspecs
I see an absence of a sport or action mode. Years ago I had a Sony W70 that I used with a light duty underwater housing for kayaking. In Program mode it had an annoying habit of selecting small aperture, slow speed. It had no sport mode per se. A background blur mode favored wide aperture, but was limited to ISO 100.

So I don't know if Sony has ever fixed that problem.

What Digital Camera Should I but If I am starting to get serious about taking pictures?

Em

I was looking into the olympus water proof cameras and I was wondering if waterproof cameras take good quality pics outside of the water? I am just starting to be intrested in taking pics and would like suggestions of good digital cameras. It would be nice to find a good camera for under 300$ and if it was water proof that would be best.

Answer
Waterproof cameras scare me because I hear FAR too often about leaks, even when they are brand new.

Apparently it is very easy to catch a tiny hair or some other object in one of the seals (e.g. the battery / memory card door), and that is enough to let water in.

I'd suggest buying extra warranty protection and trying it out pretty much right away if you intend to go swimming with it.

If you actually want to learn about photography, make sure your camera has the following:

Manual controls (aperture priority, shutter priority and fully manual)
a hot shoe for a decent flash
a view finder
bulb mode

One that will do ok outside videoing our dog, inexpensive (under$100) and that we could burn to DVD's and load to our computer. I am not very savey in this area fyi. Any help/suggestions? Thanks.

Answer
Get the Kodak PlaySport Zx3, it's a Consumer Reports recommended choice. Good quality pic, easy on the checking account, cute to look at, different colors available.

The Kodak Play Sport Zx3 is easy to use, has a very good display, and takes very good video in normal light and good video in low light. It's waterproof to a depth of 10 feet and can shoot good 5-megapixel stills. However, it only has fair audio quality. Its on-board software makes basic editing and sharing videos online very easy to do.

Highs
A good HD pocket camcorder with very good video picture quality, display quality and ease of use; good low-light picture quality, image stabilizer, versatility and still camera. Moderately priced model.

Lows
Fair audio quality and battery life.

i am going to euroope in the summer and i really need a digital cam i really don't want to be walking around winding a throw away one i was think of the new canon powershot but it is so expensive any ideas?

Answer
Some of our best answerers always recommends the Fujifilm FinePix F20 camera as the best-for-less choice. I have to say that I like the sample images at Steve's site (below). If Morey000 or SpaceCowboy show up after me and make this recommendation, choose them as the best answer, because I'm just passing along their suggestion. I have no personal experience with this camera. I see it at B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) for $150; $190 with a 1 GB Sandisk memory card.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Fujifilm/fuji_finepixf20.asp

My brother has the A540 and my mother-in-law has the A530 - on my recommendation - and neither one has stopped speaking to me yet. Based on this and experience with other Canon Powershot cameras, I am now recommending the A550 as a nice and relatively inexpensive camera.

Canon just introduced the A550, which has more pixels, but offers less user control. I'd be happy with the A540, but the A550 is probably also worth considering, especially since the A540 is now harder to find. I think it's been discontinued. The A550 costs $170 at B&H and, of course, you'll need a memory card.

A550 review: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/a550.html

Steve's reviews updates the "Best Camera" list periodically:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html

Consumer Reports from May 2007 has a short article on digital cameras and they recommend 10 different point and shoot cameras in the following order within groups according to camera design:
**COMPACTS**
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 (Overall score 75) [$410]
Kodak EasyShare C875 (Overall score 73) [$165] - Rated better for shutter lag
Nikon Coolpix P4 (Overall score 65)
**SUBCOMPACTS**
Canon Powershot SD500 (Overall score 72)
Casio Exilim EX-Z850 (Overall score 72)
Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 (Overall score 70) [$180] [Similar to W55] - Rated better for shutter lag
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX3 (Overall score 69) [$200] [Similar to FX-10, FX-12]
Olympus Stylus 720SW (Overall score 61) [Similar to 770SW - $360] (Waterproof)
**ADVANCED COMPACTS ("Near SLR")**
Fujifilm Finepix S6000fd (Overall score 77) [$300] - Rated better for shutter lag
Fujifilm Finepix E900 (Overall score 73) [$250]

[Things change so quickly in digital cameras that I can not find all of these models listed for sale and it's not even May yet. Prices are from B&H Photo, April 2007.]

Should I get a waterproof camera?

waterproof camera 5m on ... USB 2.0 Endoscope 6- LED IP67 Waterproof Camera Borescope 5M #00506813
waterproof camera 5m image
Q. I am stuck on what to get.
I want a camera that takes good quality photos.
I live right next t the beach, g to the pool a lot and am wondering if I should get a waterproof camera.
Should I get one?
Thanks soooo much in advance!

Answer
if you are fond of taking your pictures and hobbies include the beach and pool a waterproof camera is great! although there are concerns about cameras leaking you can get cameras which have an extra lens screen which will minimize the chance of water getting in and now-a-days battery covers will have a rubber seal so a tiny hair or fibre shouldn't create a leakage. the higher the depth of water resistance the less likely it is for water to get in, the advised depth is 5m because it is rather hard to swim this deep but it ensures this camera would have good protection against water and pressure. its there in your hand for any picture. pictures can speak really well to describe yourself which hobbies fall into so enjoying aquatic activities would be even better with a waterproof camera. just imagine those stunning shots you could get from in the pool of your and your friends! especially with sunlight beams pouring into the pool and through onto the pool floor! having a waterproof camera will put no limits to the pictures you can take. good quality pictures can be taken from a camera as simple as an 8MP which is why there a wide range of possibilities to choose from. if your looking for one that you want to use out of water aswell there are quite a few you could get the best one advised to me was the sony TX10, i got this for christmas and could not be happier it has a 16.2MP and a 4X optical zoom. it is water resistant guaranteed up to 5m and also shockproof to 1.5 m it has a sweep power mode and captures stunning moments with a fast shutter! this one is a little pricey though at around £250 so if you still want great quality but at a lower price i would go for the samsung wp10 this is 12.2 megapixel which is still great and has an internal 5x zoom. it is a compact camera and comes in a wide range of colours including: light turquoise, red, yellow and black unfortunately it is only up to 3 meters water resistant and does not have any shock proof abilities. this one comes in on the market at around £125
hope this helps a bit! :)

What happens if I take my 5m waterproof camera further than 5m?

Is 5m just splash proof or can I actually take it in the beach with me?
I want to know how waterproofit really is.
It's an Olympus tylus Tough Camera

Answer
Really? How about some common sense. It's guaranteed to 5M. Beyond that? it's not guaranteed not to leak. The pressure of the water will push water into it at some point. The end for your camera.

Olympus cameras that have very good video quality (crisp and clear) and are a good digital camera.

I am considering the Olympus PEN E-PL1 because the commercial for it, the company says, was shot using the camera itself. Is this a good choice? Or are there better Olympus cameras?

What are some good waterproof digital cameras?

frecklefac

I've always thought it was a really cool idea, and lately I've been looking into getting one. I've looked at some from Canon and Olympus. I'm leaning towards Canon's D10 because it gets good reviews, is slightly cheaper than Olympus models, and because I really like Canon cameras.
Anyone that owns this camera or another waterproof camera-
Is it good price considering that it would only get moderate use?
Do you recommend this camera, or another one?
Would I be better off getting a waterproof case for my current camera (a Canon powershot a570)?

Thanks so much!

Answer
Here are 5 top rated waterproof cameras:

1. Canon PowerShot D10

$330, 12.1MP; 3X optical zoom; waterproof to 33 feet
Canonâs first foray into waterproof digital compacts looks like a cross between a Digital ELPH and a diving bell. With a waterproof rating down to 33 feet, itâs among the deepest divers in this category, but its 2.5-inch LCD and optically stabilized 35â105mm (equivalent) f/2.8â4.9 zoom lens arenât at the front of this pack. Like the other cameras here, the D10 is freeze- and shockproof, in this case surviving temperatures down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit and falls of up to 4 feet.

2. Fujifilm Finepix Z33WP

$200, 10MP; 3X optical zoom; waterproof to 10 feet
Borrowing design cues from Fujiâs teen-targeted Z30, this underwater shooter is one of the tiniest and most stylish, as well as the most affordable. Its 2.7-inch LCD is as large as they come on this type of compact. But itâs waterproof only to 10 feet, and its 10MP and 35â105mm (equivalent) f/3.7â4.2 optical zoom arenât groundbreaking.

3. Olympus Stylus Tough 8000

$400, 12MP; 3.6X optical zoom; waterproof to 33 feet
Olympus offers some of the most rugged compact cameras you can get, and its latest fits the mold. You can shoot down to 33 feet underwater, drop the camera from up to 6.6 feet, and use it in temperatures down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Plus, its metal construction can withstand up to 220 pounds of pressure. Sensorshift image stabilization combats hand shake, and the zoom, while not league-leading, spans an equivalent 28â102mm f/3.5â5.1.

4. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1

$400, 12.1MP; 4.6X optical zoom; waterproof to 10 feet
Panasonic has stepped up to the pool in a strong way with its first waterproof digital camera. Its optically stabilized 28â128mm (equivalent) f/3.3â5.9 zoom offers a nice balance of wide angle for underwater and midrange tele for land-based adventures. At 12.1MP, it affords plenty of resolution, and it has an ample 2.7-inch LCD. While we wish it could go deeper than 10 feet, its 720p video recording should make playing in the backyard pool more fun than ever.

5. Pentax Optio W60

$250, 10MP; 5X optical zoom; waterproof to 13 feet
Pentax was one of the first to offer dunkable digital cameras with its WP series years ago, and now itâs a major force. This model has plenty of room to the left of the lens to hold onto, and we like the 720p video recording, though weâd rather have a faster rate than its 15 frames per second. Its Super Macro mode should be a boon below the surface, letting you focus as close as 0.4 inches from the front of the 28â140mm (equivalent) f/3.5â5.5 lens.
