waterproof camera 40 meters image

What happens after 30 meters? How is it not waterproof at 31 meters?!
Answer
It has to do with water pressure. The air around you presses down on each of us at 16 pounds per square inch. Water is heavier. The housing around a watch or camera is designed to go a certain depth.
Once this depth is reached, the water can become extremely heavy which is why you start to feel pressure at say, three meters. That's all that water above pressing down on you. The housing is designed to handle a depth of 30 meters. After that, the water pressure can force its way into seams and cracks or other weak spots in the housing or gaskets.
It's safe to say that the depth rating is conservative. It's not like you reach 30.1 meters and the whole thing implodes. They just caution you against going to 35 or 40 meters.
O.T. This is one reason why there's such a problem with plugging the Gulf oil spill. At a mile down, the water pressure is 3,000 pounds per square inch. A car at that depth would be squished flat. So you can guess the tremendous pressure the oil is coming out at to be able to counter the water pressing down on the pipe.

It could be that you saw a store promotion that's not available on the website.
