Is there a Nikon camera that's waterproof?

Sara

if yes, what one? if not, where is there a waterproof camera I can find?

Answer
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is water-proof, shock-proof and freeze-proof, has 5x optical zoom and costs 270$.

There are a few waterproof cases, such as : http://goo.gl/HujjM
For the Nikon L10,L11,L12,and the L14.

Or : http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Nikon-D3000-Underwater-Hous/dp/B003L75CUC
For Nikon D40, D60, D90, D3000, D300S, and D5000

There are also these cameras, that aren't Nikon :
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 : waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and freeze-proof.
Canon PowerShot D10 : Waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof
Kodak Easyshare Sport C123 : Dustproof, and waterproof
SVP Wp5300 : Water proof to 10 feet deep.
Coleman Xtreme C5wp : Waterproof up to 33 feet
Olympus X-560wp : Waterproof
Fujifilm XP10,XP20,XP30 : waterproof , shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof
Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP : Waterproof up to 10 feet

Which camera do you think is better?

I am looking for a camera and I don't know which one is the better deal.
A FujiFilm Finepix XP20:
Shockproof up to 4.9 ft.
Waterproof up to 16.4 ft
Freeze proof to 14 degrees F
With a Li-Ion rechargeable battery
A PNY 4GB SDHC Memory Card
And a Camera Case
All for $209.96

OR

Sony Cybershot DSCW570:
Capture Panoramic Shots and 720 HD Video (?Whats that?)
Rechargeable LI-Ion Battery
SanDisk 4GB SDHC Memory Card
Camera Case
All for $219.96

Answer
Apart from on price the two cameras aren't comparable. One is designed to be waterproof and shockproof and the other is a regular compact camera.

Panoramic shots are where the camera stitches several shots together to create one super-wide photo. 720 HD video is high resolution video recording.

The question is do you need a waterproof camera of just a regular one?

Looking for a professional and underwater camera.?

Mollie

So recently my professional camera broke and ever since i wanted a underwater camera but is also professional on land can someone help please ?
it urgent !

Answer
What brand was your "professional" camera, Nikon or Canon?

Unless you want to change camera systems, you may just want to buy a new Nikon D800 (semi-pro) or Canon 6D (entry level).

The only way you can use a Professional camera like a Nikon D4 or Canon 1Dx is to buy an underwater housing.

My guess is that you have no clue yet to what those cost.

Nikon D4 = $6,000
Canon 1Dx = $6,800

Neither come with a lens

Underwater housing.

Subal ND4 Underwater Housing for Nikon D4 = $5,800
Nauticam NA-1DX Underwater Housing for Canon 1DX = $5,100

Lomo Aqua Underwater Waterproof Film Camera Review?

Is this camera good?

Answer
I can't imagine what you expect from a toy camera as far as "good". It is as good as any $10-$20 camera would be and has a plastic case good to about 10-12 feet underwater.

Suitable for kids in wet environments, your photos are not likely to make the cover of National Geographic.

has anyone heard of this under water camera?

Who

if so how would you rate this camera on a scale of 1 to 10
10 being the besgt and and 1 the worst.
how did it work for you picture quality etc.
Fotopix DW-7Y Waterproof Digital Camera
why would you give the this camera the score that you did

Answer
-10

Things that make this camera bad:

- the sensor (physical size) is smaller than the typical underwater compact camera.
- digital zoom only.
- AAA batteries - very short battery life.
- lomo camera (AKA - junky, cheap, etc).
- 100 to 400 iso
- 720p video
- flash guide number 1.2 (about as much as a flashlight)
- 10ft waterproof rating (most good underwater compact cameras are 33ft or more).
- $70 (way too expensive... this is your basic $35 camera).

Waterproof digital camera?!?

Genevieve

I really want a waterproof digital camera for my birthday this year. I have been looking online and have found almost every camera has at least a few bad reviews to go along with however many positive ones they may have. I have a budget of 500 at this point, willing to spend more if necessary though. So I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with waterproof cameras? Or have a friend that has? I'm just really looking for some advise here. Thank you for reading and your possible help :)

Answer
The thing about the internet is you will always find bad reviews on anything. What I like to do is to take the "Olympics" scoring approach to reviews. Throw out both the highest and lowest reviews, and what is left over is probably more accurate.

I have the Olympus Tough 8010, and it has worked well for me. Not all waterproof cameras are created equal, and perhaps the most significant difference is the waterproof depth rating. The waterproof cameras are usually rated for 1 Meter, 5 Meters, or 10 Meters in depth. Any deeper and you will need to go with a housing type camera.

One thing you have to do with waterproof cameras is to rinse them off after use.

Another thing to look for in a waterproof camera is underwater color balance. When underwater, even only a few feet, you will get a blue hue to the photos. A red filter or underwater color balance feature is required to bring the photo back to the correct color. The Olympus has this function as well, but I suspect others do too.

The Canon D10 is another camera that has good reviews.

Some, but not all of the waterproof cameras are also Tough, and are shockproof, freezeproof, and chrushproof (of course within limits).

I bought my Olympus after seeing a review of it thrown into a washing machine at the laundromat and it took a video of it being tossed around. So far, it has worked well.

Digital Camera Case to go more than 10 metres?

ballet.bab

hi, i have a kodak easyshare v1003 and am looking for a underwater/ waterproof case that can go more than 10 metres. i found the seashell which seemed perfect but to my luck my camera was one of the few it didnt fit. does anyone know any cases similar to this? or just one of those bags that will go deeper? thanks

Answer
You usually need a rigid housing for depths greater than 10m as the water pressure can press buttons on cameras in flexible pouches at this depth.

If they don;'make one, you'll have to buy a compact & housing package. Some here;

Best waterproof digital point & shoot?

Zaki

My girlfriend has her heart set on the Panasonic FH1/TS1. The only problem is that it's too expensive. The cheapest I can find is $265 new, used is like $60 bucks cheaper. I'd rather buy new to make sure it works. I really can't afford that, I know she wants a waterproof & she said I don't have to get it for her but I know she really wants it & I want to make her happy. I found a few others that are a little cheaper.

Like the Kodak Playsport, FujiFilm Finepix Z33WP & XP10. Are they any good? Which one is better? There's also a couple more that I've found though they aren't waterproof. However they're cheap & I figured that by summer I can buy a waterproof case. The other 2 are the Fujifilm AX250 & Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20. Out of all of those cameras which one is the best? Or if you know of a better one for under $200. ^_^
The reason is kinda actually my fault. We both come from a kinda poor family & its more a pride thing. I wanna get the camera for her by myself. Besides she doesn't get an allowance, she'd have to use her holiday money on it. I don't want her to have to do that.

Answer
Your girlfriend is smart. The Panasonic TS1 is a very good waterproof camera (and also records HD video). From the review link below, the Canon D10, Panasonic TS1 and Pentax Option 60W were the best performers of waterproof cameras tested.

The Fujiflim Z33WP is crap and so are Olympus. The Playsport is crap. Remember, if it's real cheap, it's cheap for a reason.

One suggestion...if your girlfriend really has her heart set on the TS1, but it's out of your price range...why doesn't she contribute towards the cost of the camera?

Waterproof point & shoot camera...?

Stu D'Appl

I'm looking for a waterproof point & shoot camera to use primarily when we're out surfing, but also as a pocket camera. I'm looking at the Sony TX5, the Olympus MJU 6010 and the Canon D10, but wondered if anyone had any other suggestions or experience of these types of cameras. my budget is up to £250.

Answer
Among those choices, for a camera that you expect to get wet but will not take very deep the Sony TX5 may be a good choice.
Here is a review
http://www.photographybay.com/2010/03/06/sony-cyber-shot-tx5-hands-on-review/
It's advantage is the 10 MP CMOS sensor that will give you less noise or artifact as you turn up the ISO to capture action. It will also give you better video.

I have one concern about this camera. As seen at
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsc-t-series/dsc-tx5/tab/technicalspecs
I see an absence of a sport or action mode. Years ago I had a Sony W70 that I used with a light duty underwater housing for kayaking. In Program mode it had an annoying habit of selecting small aperture, slow speed. It had no sport mode per se. A background blur mode favored wide aperture, but was limited to ISO 100.

So I don't know if Sony has ever fixed that problem.

High quality yet affordable underwater camera?

ccokae

This summer I'm going snorkeling for a few weeks in the Great Barrier Reef and I would love to get some great underwater photos. I have a Nikon D7000. Is there a certain kind of case I put around it to take underwater (this may sound completely ridiculous)? If not, what are some semi-high quality but affordable (under $300) underwater cameras?

Answer
The spacial waterproof cases for Nikon are quite expensive. Sometimes it is easier to buy waterproof camera instead.
Latest waterproof cameras are quite good. On very rare occasions they come faulty, but the same is with regular digital cameras.
If you want camera, that makes good quality pictures on land or underwater, then I would suggest to look into these three cameras: Sony TX5, Panasonic Lumix TS2 and Olympus Rough 8010.
And all three of them cost less than $300 on Amazon.
You just need to decide which features you need more:
Sony TX5 is waterproof to 10 ft, when Panasonic TS2 and Olympus Rough 8010 are both waterproof to 33ft. And Sony TX5 has got the lowest resolution from these three. It's just 10.2 megapixels. Panasonic and Olympus have a resolution of 14MP, which is quite a great difference.
All cameras are shock-, dust-, sand- and freeze-proof. But Olympus 8010 is also a crushproof and designed to withstand a weight up to 220 pounds.
Sony TX5 gives you the opportunity to capture panoramic pictures with it's Sweep Panorama feature. Your images are automatically stitched together, which gives you the extra-wide view of the scenery.
Olympus 8010 has got the panoramic shooting option too. It also comes with a built-in 2GB memory, which is more than most cameras available on the market.
Panasonic TS2 has a good quality video recording. Although all these cameras record video in HD format. But Panasonic TS2 seems to be the most expensive out of them.
But if you do not need waterproof camera right now, Sony are releasing a new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 in April 2011. It will have a resolution of impressing 16.2 megapixels. And it is going to be the first waterproof camera that can capture 3D still images. You can pre-order this camera and it costs $330.

underwater camera suggestions?

flower

what underwater camera would you recommend and why, be it an actual underwater camera, or one that requires a separate housing? if it helps i would be shooting mainly action shots (surfing/kite surfing) but also want the option to shoot macro? any suggestions?

Answer
It all depends on how deep into water you want to go. There are a few good waterproof cameras available on the market with a good quality images and video recording. Most of the latest cameras have a good resolution. Some waterproof cameras can even do a panoramic pictures, like Olympus Tough 8010 and Sony TX5.
I would probably suggest you to look into Olympus Tough 8010, Panasonic Lumix T2 and Sony CyberShot TX5.
Panasonic TS2 has a good quality video recording. Although all these cameras record video in HD format. But Panasonic TS2 seems to be the most expensive out of them.
But if you do not need waterproof camera right now, Sony are releasing a new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 in March/April 2011. It will have a resolution of impressing 16.2 megapixels. And it is going to be the first waterproof camera that can capture 3D still images.
Sony TX5 and TX10 have Sweep Panorama which lines up your pictures really smoothly, even with moving subjects in the scene.
But I can't say much about the macro shooting. Sorry about that.
If you already have a good camera you can check whether there is a waterproof case available specifically made for it.
Hope my answer was helpful.

Answer
I found Sanyo VPC-WH1 HD Waterproof Flash Memory Camcorder w/ 30x Optical Zoom.
HD digital video (720p, 30fps)
Waterproof up to 3 meters (10 feet)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q3M80A?ie=UTF8&tag=ad107-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001Q3M80A

Best video camera, that's affordable?

Tom flugen

I want a camera that has video built in, because I don't want to carry around one of those giant video-only one's that are good quality, but big D: A camera, with good video quality basically. Know any? Thanks.

Answer
It is very difficult to get a good digital camera that takes good videos. There are some cameras out there that will take a reasonably video, but nothing compared to a video taken by a camcorder.

I have listed and provided some links to good prices on some digital cameras to consider are:

- Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77. http://www.dealjuggler.com/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-T77-10-Megapixel-Digital-Camera---Black---Only-$249.99-free-shipping.html

- Canon PowerShot SD780 IS http://www.dealjuggler.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD780-IS-12.1-Megapixel-Digital-ELPH-Digital-Camera---Black---Only-$279.99-free-shipping.html

What I would do is get a camcorder that is small in size and takes good still pictures. Here is an excellent one that will take excellent videos and good pictures. It is quite reasonable and cost and surprisingly it is Waterproof.

SANYO VPC-E2
- http://www.dealjuggler.com/SANYO-VPC-E2-8-Megapixel-Waterproof-Camcorder---only-$219.99-free-shipping.html
It not only is an excellent camcorder, but will take 8 MP still photos, 5x optical zoom, small, sleek, waterproof, lightweight, has photo face detection, video face chaser, shake control mechanism, and more. I believe the deal is through buy.com.

Hope the above was helpful,

Enjoy...

What camera is efficient both underwater and out of water? tough camera or housing?

Bonnie Bul

I am looking to buy a camera for preferably under 650USD. I want to use it for snorkeling and shallow diving, but also have it to use as a regular camera that takes good photos-maybe with the option of manual exposure. Is it better to buy an underwater camera like Olympus Tough or Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3, or to buy a decent camera and get underwater housing for it? What cameras would you suggest?

Answer
An underwater housing is going to have a depth advantage to a Tough camera. But having that, here is my story.

I had a FantaSea housing (about $100) for my Nikon S200 - a run of the mill $150 camera. So the total cost was about equivalent to a tough camera.

The housing had a 100meter depth, far more than I needed as I never scuba - only snorkel. My wife and I go on cruises in the Caribbean, so having something waterproof is desirable.

But the housing was a bit large and bulky. It was always a pain. So for that reason, we never took the camera/housing with us unless we were going snorkeling for sure.

Then we were in the Bahamas one day. I took my underwater camera, and my wife's Nikon S560 to the beach. I was taking photos with the Nikon S560 as it is easier to use on-shore than the underwater camera. While I could have removed the camera from the underwater housing to do this, it was just easier to use a second camera.

But I then put my wife's camera in the front pocket of my swim trunks and forgot about it... until after I finished snorkeling.

Yep - scratch one camera.

We replaced that camera with a Nikon S570.

Then about 6 months later, on another cruise. Same swim trunks, we were at the pool on the ship, and yep, scratch camera #2 after I went into the pool.

Then we finally got wise, and I bought an Olympus Tough 8010. Since then I have not killed any more cameras.

However, compared to the underwater housing:

The Olympus is rated for 10Meters, the underwater housing 100Meters.
You have to rinse the Olympus off after getting it wet - you don't have to with the housing.
The Olympus is more convenient as the underwater housing is bulky.
The photo quality is about the same with the Olympus as the camera that went into the housing.
The Olympus is NOT inconvenient to use on land.

I ended up selling the housing as I didn't use it after buying the Olympus.

So long story short, unless you have a depth requirement of 100Meters, a Tough is a good choice.

Buying underwater camera?

Ling

I do not want a disposable camera. I want a camera for a teenager, just for fun.
Price range: 50-200$
Quality: Good-excellent
This is for a vacation to go underwater with, nothing more.
Can someone send me a link of one?

Answer
There are very few "underwater" cameras in this price range that are any good. Even though the $300 Canon D10 IS is considered one of the best (possibly the best in terms of image quality) it can't compare to a more advanced camera with an underwater housing. Underwater photography also comes with its own set of "rules" because the way light behaves changes underwater. See if you can find a used D10 IS, then be sure to check the seals. NOTE: This camera is NOT rated for anything below 33 feet underwater!!! For that depth you will need an underwater housing for whatever camera you have.

Waterproof Case for Digital Camera?

Ms. Can't

I really like the look of underwater pictures. I got a camera recently and I really regret not getting an underwater camera, so I would really like to get a case for it. The real, legit good ones are like $300 (more than my camera) so There's ones like My Aqua Case and other look alike for about $30. But I have a pretty nice camera that I bought for $180 so I don't know if those cases really protect. Anyone out there use one before? Should I buy one?
You people are so helpful. LOL NOT. I don't need to know where to buy one and I can't just buy a new camera when I spent $180 on one a month ago? but I really wish I would've researched it more, those cameras are a lot cheaper
Are you all impaired? I'm not asking where to buy one!, I want to know if I SHOULD buy one!

you can buy it from amazon
