A digital camera to snorkel or do 30-60 ft dives with. Or is it better to just buy a housing for my current pocket camera...

Answer
Olympus makes the SW series. Waterproof and shock proof. "within reason."

How do you take pictures underwater? What equipment do I need?

crazzeemon

I am going to the Flordia Key in two weeks. I know all about the camera water casing (they cost alot). I was thinking about buying desposible underwater cameras, but my instructor that the cameras would not take good pictures. I own a Digital SLR camera, but I think it would be risky to bring it underwater, even with a covering. Should I buy a waterproof digital camera (Camera types?)? Any solutions (Not requiring loads of money)?
Also, is there any "rules" to taking pictures underwater? Lastly, is there any procedures to taking good pictures underwater?

Answer
Rubbish. A disposable will be OK if you're only snorkeling, but the photo quality royally sucks (underwater only). I tried using 30(?) meter disposables on 10 dives in Cozumel and NO underwater photos were even a little acceptable.

You reference an instructor, so we can assume that you are diving. Most budget conscious divers go to Leisure Pro for their non-life-supporting accessories, but even there you will see housings aren't cheap. Best bet is to hold off on photography until you can drop the $200 on a good, reliable housing for your digital cam.

Rules- Always be aware of your surroundings. You and your buddies safety is first, getting a shot of the mermaid is a distant second.
It's all about the light. Read up on how to photograph underwater without a strobe (the Net is peppered with articles). If by 'rules' you meant 'laws' regarding photographing underwater, the answer is "if you can see it, you can photograph it" (unless diving Area 51).

Good luck!

Shawn

One that isnt too big, wont fog up or get condensation, and wont break if you drop it like once >< lol

So im looking for a semi-durable camera or camcorder that takes movies to upload onto a computer.

Budget is under 400? maybe a little less... THANK!
looks like my budgets under 200 now... a friend backed out lmao

Answer
sir, for under 400 dollars, your best bet would be a sony digital handycam with some sort of waterproof case

not really the best res and framerate for a snowboarding movie, but whatever works. its youtube-able

what you should do is save up for a Sony DVX. Skip this season, next season even, scrape together all your cash, and if your really serious, then get this cam. Its pretty standard for all the people who actually want good film sessions. Its got a great res, and a good framerate, plus the focus is a decent distance, so you can film from like...in runs, lets say, and you can get them all they way till they stomp it.

other than that, theres not a SPECIFIC "snowboard" cam i can recommend under 400 dollars...well...200 now ;)

goodluck
keep it real man!

wich nikon series is waterproof?

Yoren

Hey,

Im looking for a travel camera. And my eye fell on the nikon coolpix series. Those are nice camera's and under a 200 eu price range wich im looking for. But its very unclear wich ones are waterproof and wich arent. So maybe you can help me out. If you have suggestions for a rugged under 200 eu camera its more than welcome.

Thanks!

Answer
AW100, AW110, are the waterproof Nikon cameras.
Camera models are updated once a year, a good example is the AW110 which is a better version of the AW100. The AW110 has the same features as the AW100, but the photo-taking features are a lot faster than that of the AW100. You can save up to eighty dollars when buying older models than the current version of different waterproof cameras.

vans warped tour 2013? (10 points)?

best waterproof cameras for 2012 image

Nessa

What is the schedule for 2013? Is there a warped tour during the summer, around from May to July?
Also where can i find the schedule/venues?
I might be in either Hawaii (I don't think they go there though) or Dallas (possibly Fort Worth) Texas.

Also what should I bring?
I really hope they have one because I've always wanted to go, I know it's hot but it's something I want to experience. thank you

Answer
Warped Tour 2013 starts on June 13th and ends on August 4th. They don't post the set times until the morning of the show, and they're posted on the huge inflatable. They also have a schedule you can buy. The dates and venues are here http://vanswarpedtour.com/dates

This is everything I brought last year and I had a great time c:
- drawstring backpack
- point and shoot camera (the don't allow professional ones.)
- chap stick
- body spray
- deodorant
- one of those mini fans that run on batteries and squirt water (my date was terribly hot.)
- LOTS OF MONEY (you'll want to buy merch)
- SUNSCREEN (don't forget to reapply, even if you don't usually burn, trust me you will.)
- one of those liter sized water bottles (they have refilling stations so you just need 1)

This year I'm thinking about wearing a sports bra under a tank so that I can take my shirt off if I get too hot, but this is what I wore last year. Wear things that you wouldn't mind getting dirty.
-soffe shorts
-cami
-vans
*Don't wear flip flops, heels, or boots. Wear old comfy sneakers.*

Make up wise I just wore waterproof mascara. Avoid wearing too much, if you do, you'll look like crap by the end of the day.

Hope you have fun! Trust me, standing all day in the heat is worth it. Warped 2012 was my first and it's still the best day of my life.

The new iPhone 6?!?!?!?

Tina

My friends said " I'm gonna get the iPhone 6 when t comes out" but they nvr told me when it came out. So when does it come out?

Answer
The iPhone 6 is rumored to have a 12-megapixel sensor, up from the 8-megapixel version of the iPhone 5. It could be waterproof with a 4.8-inch Retina+ HD display with a 3D camera and fingerprint reader. Prices are being quoted bewteen $99 and $400.
For months, leaks, photographs and specifications have surfaced online. (See the alleged iPhone 6 photos.)
According to IBTimes, Apple is rumored to unveil the iPhone 6 simultaneously with the iPhone 5S at the September event to celebrate the public release date of iOS 7. The tech experts believe Apple will release the iPhone 5S on Sept. 20.
The iPhone 5S will have a new super HD camera/screen, a better battery, NFC, and "possible updates include an IGZO screen for Retina+ 128GB storage." The iPhone 5S is rumored to have internet speeds around ten times as fast as 3G.
It may also have a price of $199, just like the current iPhone 5, and have possible release dates of August, September, or October.
Rumors of a summer release for the iPhone 5S began in April this year when sources close to the electronics giant, including manufacturers, leaked details that production had started.
Apple has unveiled a new handset every year since it announced the first iPhone in 2007. More recent models, including the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5, were announced in October 2011 and September 2012 respectively.
Despite earlier reports, Apple won't stop production of the iPhone 5 in addition to the iPhone 4 and 4S when the next model comes out.
Analysts at Goldman Sachs noted in their report this week that abandoning the iPhone 5 and all other previous iPhone models would be a major departure from Apple Inc.'s current strategy of keeping the older models around and selling them as low cost handsets.

I just recently ordered the Coleman Xtreme c5wp shock waterproof camera. I was planning on using it for pictures at beaches and at pools. Now I'm wondering does it take video? Thank you.

Answer
Too bad you did not look at the Nikon S30 camera for under $120. It has an optical zoom and can shoot HD video. It is also shock and waterproof

http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/26317/COOLPIX-S30.html

The Coleman is more of a toy with NO optical zoom and no listing for a video feature.

I'm going scuba diving (basic open water course) in December, there's an IT fair in a few days and I want to buy an underwater camera. Which one do you recommend? I have 2 in mind, any comments on these 2 or any other recommendations?
They are: Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT3 and Olympus TOUGH series TG-810

thanks :)

Answer
I really prefer the Panasonic FT3 because of the following features.
Integrated GPS, altimeter and barometer
Waterproof up to 40 feet deep
Freezeproof to 14â° F
Can withstand bangs and bruises up to 6.6 feet
Good performance in low levels of light
Exceptional high quality video capture at 1080p HD
The ability to Zoom in while recording and refocusing

Which camera should I get Go-pro or Olympus?

Abdiel

I enjoy snorkeling and filming surfers, and I like the first person video the Go-pro offers but is Olympus better in quality of pics and video, and durability?? Im in between the Go-pro Hero 2 with the dive housing or the Olympus Tough TG-810. Please help!

Answer
The GoPro Hero2 does not work for snorkeling. Yes, there is a waterproof housing, but the lens does not work underwater. It produces a distorted, unfocused effect.
By the way, I have had great success with the Nikon AW100.

best waterproof camera buy image

bad day

I am planning to spend my holidays in the Philippines and spend some time island hopping in Palawan (Honda Bay Island). They said the boat ride usually takes more than an hour and could be sometimes rough. I was just wondering If there are waterproof camera bags I could buy to protect my camera in case of a water splash, or worst camera falling into the water (hopefully shallow water). Could you suggest anything, please.

Answer
The bags I use from Tamrac are water proof but, if you have invested some big bucks into your camera the best is a hard case from Pelican. Pelican cases are lockable, airline approved and floats (if the boat sinks), I use mine on open water, a brite yellow one (something I'll find in the dark).

I would like to know about Underwater Cameras

Answer
What do you want to know exactly?

You can either buy a dedicated underwater camera (film or digital) which is designed for various depths (depending on whether you are swimming or scuba diving) OR you buy a 'housing' for a standard camera (digital usually these days).
Dedicated underwater cameras start at around £50-60 and go up to a few hundred £. You get what you pay for though in terms of image quality.

Housings fro camera can be as simple as flexible plastic pouches (for fairly shallow depths, up to about 10m or so) or can be rigid plastic, which will stand greater depths.
Rigid housings for compact digital cameras cost a couple of hundred £ or so, for DSLR's they are about £1200 - £2000. For DSLR housings you also need separate 'ports' to house the lens - these vary in price from £300-£500.

You also need separate off camera flash (strobes) if you are going deeper than a few metres, as light levels and colour drop rapidly with depth. These cost extra on top of the housing and can cost from £150 for a simple one to about £900 for a better one.

Underwater cameras need careful looking after - those in separate housings need proper care of the seals or O rings in order to prevent flooding.

I need a good camera. Any suggestions?

I'm going on 2 big trips this summer: New York and a cruise to the caribbean. I'd like something that can take pictures out of water AND underwater, ya know?

Sorry, I don't know anything about cameras. I'm not a photographer, but I'd like something nice. Any suggestions?

Answer
Look at the Nikon AW100, Canon D10, and Olympus TG820 (not the Stylus 820 as it it not waterproof). These are all waterproof cameras (up to 10 meters for 60 minutes), and are probably the three most popular waterproof cameras for those taking cruises. They are all in the $300 range.

You can buy cheaper underwater cameras that cost a few dollars, but usually they have lower waterproof ratings - in the 3ft to 9ft range. Those are just not good enough to take underwater in my view.

The ratings are for maximum depth in calm-static water. If you are in the ocean with the waves bouncing and sloshing all around you, that will certainly test the water resistance of those cameras and be equivalent to deeper water.

I would like to buy waterproof camera and I am in dilemma between PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-TS2 and OLYMPUS STYLUS TOUGH-8010. Please tell me which one do you find better and why.

Or you can suggest me something else. It is important to me that it is waterproof 10m, have wide angle, make quality videos and make great shots underwater...

Thanks!

Answer
These are main features difference :

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 : 4.6x Optical zoom, Dustproof = Yes, Crushproof = No, Continuous Drive = 1.8 fps, Storage included = 40 MB Internal.

Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 : 5x Optical zoom, Dustproof = No, Crushproof = Yes, Continuous Drive = 5 fps, Storage included = 2 GB Internal.

For the spec Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 is better, but rating review/popular camera a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 is better, The final is depend on you.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 : 14.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera, 4.6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom, 2.7-Inch LCD, Waterproof down to 10 meters, Shockproof (rated for drops up to 6 feet), Freezeproof, Dustproof, Record high-definition movie in AVCHD Lite, etc.

How to make two different videos (filmed with different cameras) the same size in Adobe Premier?

Jesus Frea

I filmed most the videos with a fujifilm XP waterproof camera and the rest I filmed with my Nikon D5000. In adobe premier the fuji videos display full screen but when I add Nikon videos to the film there is a black border around it, it there anyway to make the Nikon ones play full screen along with the fuji ones as well?
Thanks!
Fujifil XP60 (sorry I didn't specify this earlier)

Answer
The aspect ratio of the two cameras are different.

In the future, shoot with both cameras set to either HD or Full HD. The matching of correct aspect ratios it the easiest way to achieve this.

For now, you may have to crop into the Nikon footage to match that of your Fujifilm XP.

Since you did not tell us which XP type camera you have, it is hard to give you an exact answer. Some can only shoot at HD (1280 x 720p), other Full HD (1920 x 1080p).

If your Fujifilm camera can only shoot in HD, then shoot the video using your Nikon at the same resolution

I am looking for a underwater video hd helmet camera, for snorkeling and diving sessions.
So far i found the GoPro Cam, but i couldn't find any recommendations for underwater filming.

Thank You.

Answer
Another option is the Contour. I rent these to people for kayaking and rafting. The waterproof case is good up to 10 meters deep. That's good for snorkeling, but it is pretty shallow for scuba diving. There is another waterproof case for it that can go 100's of feet deep but that case costs around $400.

The Contour cameras shoot in HD and they cost a little less than the GoPro.

I'll include a clip of the camera while diving. Also a link to the waterproof cases. And a link to my site where I rent the cameras.

What kind of camera do underwater photographers use ?

nandini

The underwater world shown in discovery channel and in animal planer is extremely colorful. What type of camera do those men use to capture such amaxing colors with perfect clarity

Answer
I would buy an Amphibious Underwater Camera.
Amphibious underwater cameras are cameras that donât need housing. You can take them right into the water. The cameras are waterproof up to 100 feet or more. They can be digital or film cameras. You can get a variety of attachments and accessories. Amphibious underwater cameras are great for beginners; they have fewer controls and functions than housed cameras and they take great pictures. There are two types of amphibious cameras.

* Rangefinder cameras have viewfinders. You donât have to look through a lens to take a picture.
* With SLR cameras, you must look through a lens to take a picture.

Ideas to waterproof my digital camera?

I'm going to the beach over spring break, and I'd like to bring my camera along and take pictures at the beach, but I'm afraid it might slip or accidentally fall into the pool or ocean. Any ideas how to keep it protected?

If not, are there any cheap disposable waterproof digital camera(ones I can go back and delete pictures before printing)?

Thanks!

Answer
There are cases you can buy from sporting stores that fit over cameras. Some are hard shelled and some are soft. I included a link at the bottom for Mountain Equipment Co-op. They've got a ton of stuff. There's a really crap camera at Walmart for $20 that's waterproof and digital. But it's got nooooo picture quality whatsoever. I would suggest the cases. Or just be extra careful with it. Then again, there's always the good old Ziploc bag. hahaha.

How do i Take my camera outside without getting it wet?

Me

SO it;s snowing out and i want to video and take pictures of people in the snow but I'm afaid that my camera will get wet. So What shoul do do?

Answer
Have you tried an umbrella ?

cheap option : ziplock bag.
be careful of condensation that may fog the lens.

You can also buy underwater case for cameras, though they are usually more expensive than the cameras themselves.
Olympus makes some cameras that are weatherproof : not waterproof but will withstand rain and snow.

here is a link to a "cheap" waterproof camera bag:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=5237&A=details&Q=&sku=400205&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

Also: snow means cold. Batteries don't perform too well in cold. so keep the camera in your pocket when not in use.
do not use alkaline batteries that perform really poorly in cold. rechargeable NiMH or LiIon will work a lot better.

Waterproof point & shoot camera...?

best waterproof camera reviews 2010 image

Stu D'Appl

I'm looking for a waterproof point & shoot camera to use primarily when we're out surfing, but also as a pocket camera. I'm looking at the Sony TX5, the Olympus MJU 6010 and the Canon D10, but wondered if anyone had any other suggestions or experience of these types of cameras. my budget is up to £250.

Answer
Among those choices, for a camera that you expect to get wet but will not take very deep the Sony TX5 may be a good choice.
Here is a review
http://www.photographybay.com/2010/03/06/sony-cyber-shot-tx5-hands-on-review/
It's advantage is the 10 MP CMOS sensor that will give you less noise or artifact as you turn up the ISO to capture action. It will also give you better video.

I have one concern about this camera. As seen at
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsc-t-series/dsc-tx5/tab/technicalspecs
I see an absence of a sport or action mode. Years ago I had a Sony W70 that I used with a light duty underwater housing for kayaking. In Program mode it had an annoying habit of selecting small aperture, slow speed. It had no sport mode per se. A background blur mode favored wide aperture, but was limited to ISO 100.

So I don't know if Sony has ever fixed that problem.

Good camera for photography?

Stfu

My birthday is soon and the camera I have dies within 10 seconds and can't take photos inside or in low light, I want a camera good inside AND outside that can take photos without having to have an extremely sunny day to do it, and one that doesn't run out within a few seconds

Help mee? :)
@fhotoace

What is my budget? My budget is around 100-200 pounds.

My current camera cost £30, it was a gift. It is extremely shit and I the camera cannot be ajusted to shoot in low-light.

As for the "not being in the habit of using good energy management when using my camera" the camera takes batteries, it literally takes around 3 photos before using up all the battery power. I have to spend loads of money buying tons of packs of batteries just to take a few photos.

Thanks for the site, but I wanted peoples personal opinions on a certain camera that they have / had as I don't really know what to look for myself.

Answer
Their are a couple of problems to answering your question. First, the consumer camera market is VERY competitive but the well made products are very durable. Many basic models are created sold and discontinued in a matter of months so when someone finds a model they like they often find it is unavailable when a friend or acquaintance wants to get the same camera. The best solution for this is to look at some reliable brands and try to determine what you want to do. This will help you to make a list of specifications that are important to you. You already know one important criteria - Good battery life or possibly a rechargeable battery system. You should also buy your camera from a reliable source that will give you a good exchange privilege if you are not satisfied with your first choice. Some reliable brands for better quality cameras include (in alphabetical order) Canon, Casio, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax and Sony. Most of these companies have introduced new models in 2009 or 2010. This makes it difficult to get personal recommendations for specific models from any source other than reviewers because few of us can buy new cameras every year. Here is a link to a very reliable reviewer's list of "best cameras" in your basic price range.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/2009-digital-camera-holiday-gift-guide---part-2.html

You can look at individual reviews of models that interest you by clicking on the "Full Review" text. In the reviews there is usually a section called "Steve's Conclusion" where he summarizes pros and cons of the model and provides a suggested user profile. He is very objective and appears to be open minded about various products capabilities.

The other problem is the situation you are reporting with the batteries. Digital cameras put a significant drain on battery power so they require EITHER high capacity disposable batteries OR rechargeable batteries, preferably either Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) or Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). There is a significant difference between typical Carbon Zinc, Alkaline and High Capacity Alkaline batteries. The problem you are describing sounds like you are using Carbon Zinc batteries. These simply do not have sufficient power to operate in high drain situations and will die very quickly in most digital cameras especially if you need to use the display screen to view and compose pictures. The other possibilities are that there is a circuit fault in the camera or you are one of those rare people who has body chemistry that causes some electronic equipment to short out and drain very quickly (in which case you may want to look at waterproof models because they tend to avoid those chemistry problems).

Also, if you get a model with rechargeable batteries I would recommend getting a spare battery when you buy the camera.

HTH.

I heard Olympus was a goood brand...tell me if i am wrong. if you have an olympus camera...tell me about it and if you like it. otherwise, what other brands work well? (and will last..too!)

Answer
The Olympus cameras are very well made.

You should consider the 850 SW, which is very sturdily made, with lots of cool features. It's compact, shockproof (made to be able to with stand a drop onto concrete from desk height), waterproof.. you could go swimming with it!), excellent in camera panorama mode- you can take several photos that overlap a little bit side by side, and the camera will merge them, you don't have to wait until you upload them on your computer and have other software do it.

You should also consider Canon Sureshots. Most anything like the A590, or the SD1100 would also be good fits for you.

What's a good digital camera?

Obie-One K

I want a new digital camera for Christmas, and I'm not sure what kind to ask for. Got any ideas?

Answer
It depends on the kind of photography you want to be doing and your budget.

My suggestions are as follows:

Digital compact camera - taking snapshots
Olympus SW series (waterproof, durable, small, image stabilized)
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_digital_sw.asp

Mid-size camera - high image quality, more versatile, maybe take some artistic shots
Canon PowerShot SX110IS or G10
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=113

Entry-Level SLR - near professional results, huge, interchangeable lenses - budget over $1000 CAD ($800 USD)
Canon Rebel XTi w kit lens
Canon Rebel XSi w kit lens
Nikon D40 w kit lens

I personally have a Rebel XSi and Canon Elph SD300 (old compact)
My brothers have a Rebel XT, Rebel XTi, and Olympus SW 850 between them. All have been great.

I have owned Sony Cybershot before and it was far inferior to the products listed above.

When you hear about a camera, google or yahoo the name and the word "review"

What is a good waterproof video camera under $400-$450?

Rebecca

I want a good HD waterproof video camera under 400 bucks, but don't have much experience with buying them, so I don't know what's good. I saw the sanyo cameras, and some looked pretty good. Any suggestions?
The main thing I was thinking about is I want to take it out on a boat, without worrying that water would get in it or if I (I hope not . . .) fall out of the boat or something :P

Answer
It depends on what you mean by "waterproof"? what are you going to be using it for and at what depths?

To me any camera that is 'waterproof' to less than 10m is pretty much non waterproof. The reason is that the depths given are static depths, just placed in the water, if you knock them then you can easily exceed the tolerances given and flood the camera.

Most dive camera/housings are rated to between 20m and 100m, some even deeper. You can get a housing for most main manufacturer made cameras.

What camera is efficient both underwater and out of water? tough camera or housing?

I am looking to buy a camera for preferably under 650USD. I want to use it for snorkeling and shallow diving, but also have it to use as a regular camera that takes good photos-maybe with the option of manual exposure. Is it better to buy an underwater camera like Olympus Tough or Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3, or to buy a decent camera and get underwater housing for it? What cameras would you suggest?

Answer
An underwater housing is going to have a depth advantage to a Tough camera. But having that, here is my story.

I had a FantaSea housing (about $100) for my Nikon S200 - a run of the mill $150 camera. So the total cost was about equivalent to a tough camera.

The housing had a 100meter depth, far more than I needed as I never scuba - only snorkel. My wife and I go on cruises in the Caribbean, so having something waterproof is desirable.

But the housing was a bit large and bulky. It was always a pain. So for that reason, we never took the camera/housing with us unless we were going snorkeling for sure.

Then we were in the Bahamas one day. I took my underwater camera, and my wife's Nikon S560 to the beach. I was taking photos with the Nikon S560 as it is easier to use on-shore than the underwater camera. While I could have removed the camera from the underwater housing to do this, it was just easier to use a second camera.

But I then put my wife's camera in the front pocket of my swim trunks and forgot about it... until after I finished snorkeling.

Yep - scratch one camera.

We replaced that camera with a Nikon S570.

Then about 6 months later, on another cruise. Same swim trunks, we were at the pool on the ship, and yep, scratch camera #2 after I went into the pool.

Then we finally got wise, and I bought an Olympus Tough 8010. Since then I have not killed any more cameras.

However, compared to the underwater housing:

The Olympus is rated for 10Meters, the underwater housing 100Meters.
You have to rinse the Olympus off after getting it wet - you don't have to with the housing.
The Olympus is more convenient as the underwater housing is bulky.
The photo quality is about the same with the Olympus as the camera that went into the housing.
The Olympus is NOT inconvenient to use on land.

I ended up selling the housing as I didn't use it after buying the Olympus.

So long story short, unless you have a depth requirement of 100Meters, a Tough is a good choice.

What is digital camera underwater housing?

I'm taking scuba lessons and I'm wondering can I use my digital camera and just buy a "house" for it or must I buy an underwater camera and a house?

Answer
Depending on what model you ahve there may already be a housing available for it. Have you tried searching the model? I found one for my Nikon.

What quadcopter would lift a gopro camera?

Colton

Well im kinda new to the whole quadcopter, Lama 450's and Symas and all of those brands but im just looking for a nice quadcopter ( from what ive heard they're the most reliable copters) within $50-$200 to lift my gopro hero 3 (if that matters) if you know anything or know a website please let me know thanks!
Oh and im also looking for a nice RC car to mount my gopro on as well so if you have any extra information that would be nice!

Answer
Hi Colton, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

Normally this first Question would be better-placed over in "Hobby & Crafts" Category, where most of the R/C types hang out, but I'm familiar with R/C controlled aerial cameras and the GoPro line.

The specified weight of a GoPro Hero3 is 73 grams (2.6 oz.) and most quality Quadcopters can lift that. Quads that aren't in the "beginner/toy" class (and most good R/C vehicles) are NOT cheap. (The R/C hobby can be an expensive one!)

You're not going to find many $50-$200 Quads that can lift much more than their own weight with a small R/C battery. You'll be lucky to get more than 10 minutes flying time with no payload at that price range.

A $500-$900 USD copter will give you 1000 - 2000 grams payload & decent flying time.

Of course, if you have any model-building & electronic soldering skills, you can stretch your dollars by assembling a Quad from a kit. "Hobby Lobby" has decent kits and excellent step-by-step videos (on their website and on YouTube). None of their cheap kits has payload ratings (they really aren't designed for much more than just flying). Drop by one of their stores and ask the R/C counter staff what they recommend for your project.

Here's the link to their "best" under-$200 ($170) R/C Quad that's Ready-To-Fly (non-kit): http://www.hobby-lobby.com/blade_mqx_quad_copter_rtf_1037039_prd1.htm

You'll probably need to save up more money than you planned. Look at Hobby Lobby's current kit selection: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/kits_518_ctg.htm

Here's an example of a good Quad with decent payload rating (2-4 pounds; 1-2 kg) from WoW Hobbies: http://www.wowhobbies.com/turboacex830kit.aspx It's an 80% assembled kit, and costs around $600.

And if you want your GoPro to last more than a flight or two (especially since you seem to be new to quadcopters), you might invest in the GoPro Hero3 Waterproof Housing to add a bit more protection from crash-landings. Be sure to practice flying before mounting your camera!

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Whats the best camera I can buy for under 200 dollars ?

Q. I was looking at the Samsung sl720 but I'm not sure. I really suck at technological stuff, and I really want to get the best for my money. I really wanted a waterproof camera like the Olympus, but I'm not sure that's on my budget. please help !!

Answer
At least 10 - 30 times a day someone on YA asks: "Which one is a good camera to buy?"
A quick search would have given you hundreds of instant replies (without having to wait for answers), but once again here is my 10 cents on the subject:

Point & Shoot cameras are wonderfully handy because of their small size.
When light conditions are ideal, they even take really nice photos - all of them do.

However, they all DO have limitations - they don't do very well in low light situations (i.e. noisy photos, hard to avoid blur, etc). The little onboard flash is very harsh at close range, and doesn't reach very far.
Many of them have no manual functions, so you are limited to only very basic photos, you can't compensate for unusual situations, or do many fun "tricks" and special effects.
P&S's also suffer from frustrating shutterlag and many of them chew through batteries rather quickly.

If you're ok with all those limitations, then go ahead and pick one, most of them (the same type and same price range) are rather similar. Personally I would pick either a Canon or a Nikon, and would certainly stay away from Kodak.

A higher end P&S will give you more manual options and better quality. Many of those even give you the option of adding a proper flash (which makes a big difference to your flash photos).

Don't worry too much about megapixels - all modern cameras have plenty enough, plus there is a limit to how many pixels you can squash into a tiny P&S sensor before you actually LOSE quality rather than gain it. 6 megapixels is about the upper limit for those little sensors.
Don't worry about digital zoom, in fact, don't EVER use it. It simply crops away pixels, i.e. destroys information. The only real zoom is optical.

Some people ask for a camera that "doesn't take blurry photos". Blur is the photographer's problem, NOT the camera's. Even the most expensive camera will take blurry photos if the person behind it doesn't know what they're doing.

Some words about special effect features such as color accent, or even just b/w or sepia:
About applying any sort of effect in camera: DON'T DO IT !
Imagine if you just happen to take the best photo you ever took - surely you would want to have it in all its glory, right?
Always set your camera to biggest size, best quality (and to color).
That way, you start with the best possible photo as your original.
Then you make a copy and edit it to your heart's content.
You have much better control over any editing on your computer, even something as simple as b&w will look MUCH better when it was processed properly instead of in camera.
You can do all sorts of things to it PLUS you get to keep your original.

Decide which features are important to you, and look for cameras that have that feature.
Then go compare a few models on www.dpreview.com .

The very best thing you can do for your success is to borrow some books and learn about photography. A bit of knowledge will make a much bigger difference to your photos than your choice of P&S camera can.

For what it's worth - if I was in the market for a P&S camera right now, my choice would be a Canon Powershot SX20 IS http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=19208
I know that one is outside of your budget, I just wanted to let you know what MY choice would be.
