Or if you know of a better waterproof or possibly water resistant camera for under $50.00, that would be even better. I am planning on visiting Niagara Falls in the next few months and will be doing a number of the tours that involve going under the falls and what not and, I don't want to get my super expensive camera messed up, so, am looking for a cheap alternative for taking pictures of the falls and whether it's a camera that's water proof or water resistant, either would be ok I think.

Looking for a Waterproof Camera Case?

How's My H

It's summer! So that means I'll be going to the beach a lot and I'll be taking a lot of pictures. I did want to invest for a Olympus 1030 SW camera because it's waterproof and I can get more of a kick out of my pictures, but my parents 'value of a dollar' ordeal, my summer job will pay for it in... August.

So instead I'm gonna get use old Kodak digital cam.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a good waterproof digital camera case? Nothing to expensive really... maybe $50 at most?

And if possible, where I can get them... Target, Wal-Mart, etc..

Thanks :]

Answer
I seriously doubt you'll find an underwater case for $50.

Check here to see if you can find something suitable within your budget:

An alternative might be the Minolta Weathermatic Dual 35 which is a 35mm film camera good to 15 feet. Its all auto and has a 2 position lens - 35mm or 50mm. You can find one on eBay for under $50.00.

im about to purchase a waterproof digital camera and need some help on deciding which to buy! i've narrowed my search down to three cameras. The Canon d10 the Sony tx5 or the Panasonic TS2. Please help! I'm going soon and want to make the best purchase. I want a great reliable camera to take to the beach every week that takes great video, action shots and good battery life!

Answer
All three cameras are as good and reliable as they come.

The best way to decide on image quality is to look at what people do with them in the camera's flickr groups.

RAINFOREST: If you only had one day to spend in San Jose, Costa Rica?

If you only had one day to spend in San Jose, Costa Rica and wanted to go see the Rainforest, where would you go? I found all the National Parks list for Costa Rica, but really don't know which one to go to. I hear of all the exotic and rare wild life I want to see - the sloths, red macaws, monkeys, etc. in the Rainforest and wish to see these sorts of things even if it is farther. So, what is also the CLOSEST things to do (outside of San Jose City tours) but not just seeing a coffee plantation or butterfly farm? I know about the Arenal Volcano, but what is the best rainforest? (And what is the best rainforest/park to see all the wildlife) And what is the closest rainforest if not the best? I travelled and stayed in the Daintree Rainforest in Australia and LOVE it. I live on a beach in Florida so have no desire to go to a beach since I live on one already, hence why I want to see and take pictures with my nice Canon EOS camera of animals/fauna, etc. in the dense rainforests.

Answer
if you like your camera BE CAREFUL!! i went to Costa Rica and the humidity and sudden rain in the rain forest ruined my camera, a very nice one and i was quite upset. i would recommend getting a waterproof case. San Jose just isn't that close to most of the non-traveled rainforest's. the best one for wildlife (for me) was the cloud forest (Monte Verde) it was amazing!! there were sloths just hanging by the doors and windows and hummingbirds everywhere! also iguanas and toucans and wild butterflies. more than i can mention. amazing huge old trees with cactus growing on the higher branches, the base covered in moss and other small plants. i would also recommend la fortuna waterfall as an extremely beautiful photo spot, it's an amazing country with beauty around every corner; I'm sure you wont have any trouble getting great pic.s . also i would go to a restaurant in San Jose called pollo fiesta or something that means chicken party, it's soooo amazing! you absolutely need to try the guacamole! have fun!!

is Geocacheing a good hobby?

Simmy

i want to get a little interest in my life so i was thinking of while im on break at college (we have two week breaks at the middle and end of the semester), going geocacheing. Is this a good hobby?
then why would i not want people to see me doing it.

Answer
Yes.

My brother introduced it to me in 2004. It takes you to lots of interesting places, and gives you an excuse for a bit of an adventure. You need a hand-held GPS. The Garmin Etrex yellow it still the cheap standard that does what you need, but of course if you pay more you get more. You then go to the Geocaching site and set up your account details, so you can log your finds, and away you go. A camera, spare batteries, and a waterproof pencil is handy. And of course a supply of goodies to exchange - small cheap trinkets are best. I have a supply of rubber frogs. Quite often you can pick up caching goodies at festivals.

You can buy travel bug tags - these are Aluminium tags which you can attach to a mascot which has a serial number and its own web page where you can observe its progress around the world. Most of mine have been muggled and lost, but I have one little lion that has had incredible adventures over 5 years, including being lost and found months later in Australia, and is currently in the Netherlands, having been to the United States. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=69601

Once you settle down somewhere, you can set caches too, which is fun. I have set three - one with clues to calculate the co-ordinates, one very easy one which is popular for passers-by, and one which was on a wild island next to a ford, but got washed away in the 2007 floods.

Apart from finding the local caches, you can also print off details for those near anywhere you are going.

i very much want to get a waterproof camera, but i don't know which one. i feel like i need more info on the cameras to make a good decision. i've been searching amazon and it comes between a couple.
im very interested in the new olympus 8010, but the cost is much greater than the canon d10.

i dont believe image quality will be an issue just reliability. plz anyone who has owned these cameras help me make a good choice that floats.

Answer
Although it's virtually crush-proof, the Tough 8010 is a new camera and is untested.

The Canon is last year's model but has been proven reliable. Another one you should consider is the Panasonic TS1. The casing is made of metal -- just like the Olympus Tough.

Check the link below for all the list of waterproof cameras in the market right now. Maybe you'll find one that fits your budget.

Do you have an idea what causes the "no connection" error in Olympus waterproof camera?

Nielrose S

I have an Olympus 8010, I bought it last November 2010. I used it on a pool last week for the first time. After half an hour (out of the pool) I got the "No Connection" error. I Tried removing the battery for 3 days and it still didn't work. Can you help me out on how to fix this?

Answer
A few potential reasons :-

1. You didn't connect the cable to your pc correctly.
2. Cable is faulty
3. Terminal at battery is faulty

Try :-

1. Clean your camera in a bucket of fresh water and press all the buttons like stated in your manual (if you haven't done so)

2. Try other port on your pc.

3. Check if there's anything stuck at your terminal.

4. Turn your camera on and off, and remove the battery.

The new iPhone 6?!?!?!?

best waterproof cameras for 2012 image

Tina

My friends said " I'm gonna get the iPhone 6 when t comes out" but they nvr told me when it came out. So when does it come out?

Answer
The iPhone 6 is rumored to have a 12-megapixel sensor, up from the 8-megapixel version of the iPhone 5. It could be waterproof with a 4.8-inch Retina+ HD display with a 3D camera and fingerprint reader. Prices are being quoted bewteen $99 and $400.
For months, leaks, photographs and specifications have surfaced online. (See the alleged iPhone 6 photos.)
According to IBTimes, Apple is rumored to unveil the iPhone 6 simultaneously with the iPhone 5S at the September event to celebrate the public release date of iOS 7. The tech experts believe Apple will release the iPhone 5S on Sept. 20.
The iPhone 5S will have a new super HD camera/screen, a better battery, NFC, and "possible updates include an IGZO screen for Retina+ 128GB storage." The iPhone 5S is rumored to have internet speeds around ten times as fast as 3G.
It may also have a price of $199, just like the current iPhone 5, and have possible release dates of August, September, or October.
Rumors of a summer release for the iPhone 5S began in April this year when sources close to the electronics giant, including manufacturers, leaked details that production had started.
Apple has unveiled a new handset every year since it announced the first iPhone in 2007. More recent models, including the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5, were announced in October 2011 and September 2012 respectively.
Despite earlier reports, Apple won't stop production of the iPhone 5 in addition to the iPhone 4 and 4S when the next model comes out.
Analysts at Goldman Sachs noted in their report this week that abandoning the iPhone 5 and all other previous iPhone models would be a major departure from Apple Inc.'s current strategy of keeping the older models around and selling them as low cost handsets.

Buying a used Full-Frame DSLR a smart idea?

Bergg

I am currently looking for a new (used) DSLR because the DSLR I had before which is the Canon XS, is not dust proof. :O.. So I was thinking about the canon 60d which is $899 new plus tax and all the goofy add-on's. The 60d is more video capable which isn't my priority, and its not as durable. However, I do not want to spend more that $1000. Which means I can could get a used full frame 5D or 1DS. Then there are the other prosumer DSLRs like the 50D & 40D: not too old. What do you think about buying a used one?? Thank-a-doodles! Ciao!

Answer
The 60D isn't full-frame so I guess this would be an option too.

Buying used has one advantage. It has been tested long enough to know its working. ;) Just make sure you know how to look at cameras to make sure you are getting your money's worth. That means never transact online. Check the camera personally before handing over your precious cash.

What should I be looking for in a digital camera?

waterproof digital camera 10x on ... by Stefan on February 17th, 2009 in Digital Cameras | No Comments
waterproof digital camera 10x image

xxo.nicole

I am looking to buy a digital camera. I am willing to spend around $300-$350. I have to research before I can spend that much so I know exactly what I am buying.

Some of the things I know I should look for are:
- Megapixel (the more the better??)
- Optical or digital zoom
- Screen size.. or type ?

And.. thats it. And I know there is ALOT more that I should be considering.

Answer
Before purchasing a digital camera, ask yourself this: what sort of pictures will you be taking?
- For regular 4" by 6" photos, 5-6 megapixels (MP) is sufficient, but more MP will let you crop photos without loss of detail, as well as do larger-sized prints with superb image quality.
- Long range photos, or regular-range photos? The difference here is the camera's zoom. Optical zoom is "real-world" zoom using the camera's lense, whereas digital zoom is "artificial" zoom using the camera's internal processor to magnify an image at the cost of image resolution. Optical zoom is much, much better for quality pictures. The concern: Regular zoom cameras (usually 3x optical zoom) are more compact and easy to carry, whereas high zoom cameras (usually 10x optical zoom and up) usually have a large lens, making them bulky and less suitable for candid or everyday use.
- Where will you use the camera? Again, physical size is a concern if you want to carry a camera with you all the time. Ultra-slim cameras exist and are quite powerful. Additionally, waterproof and "tough" cameras exist for shooting under any circumstance.
- Last, depending on your photography skills, do you want a simple "point-and-click" camera, or will you be using manual focus, changing the ISO often, etc? Generally, cameras with lower prices have very few adjustable settings, but this can be great if you aren't going to worry about all of that.

Regarding screen size: most of today's cameras have an LCD screen which is at least 2 to 2.5 inches in size, which is enough to clearly see pictures you take and easily review them if necessary.

Finally, one essential accessory is the Memory card. This card is like "film", in that is is required to store pictures on your camera. Cards vary in price, and since different cameras require different cards, I suggest first finding a camera you like, and then considering an appropriate card. (Or, ask about digital camera memory at a later date.)

I want a digital camera that takes pics with sharp detail?

Jess

I am looking into buying a small digital camera that takes pictures with sharp detail, zoom doesn't matter really as much. Looking to spend under $400 US if at all possible. I want one that will fit into a purse or pocket, no permanently protruding lenses. Waterproof a plus but by no means a requirement. Any recommendations?

Answer
I would suggest Sony Cybershot DSCW300 13.6MP with 3x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot

What's the difference between a GoPro and a waterproof camera?

Adam

Okay, I've been looking into purchasing a new camera, but a good quality one, but I'm wondering if I should get a waterproof camera or a GoPro for underwater activities and stuff.

Answer
GoPros are rated EXTREMELY deep so you can take them down to 60 meters inside the waterproof housing (about 150 feet). Likewise, the housing attaches to a whole myriad of mounting systems for your head, chest, helmet or vehicle, and fully protects the camera from salt water damage and getting beat up / damaged whilst out of water too (http://www.launchhelmetcams.com/GoPro-HD-Naked-Hero/waterproof).
GoPros have a big wide 170 degree fisheye lens which is usually a pretty expensive addition to a digital camera. Also, while you may not have as many options to adjust shooting settings for stills compared to some digital cameras, I would say and GoPro HD Hero (http://www.launchhelmetcams.com/gopro-hd-cameras) is far superior to most of the point and shoots these days.

What is a good waterproof digital camera for SCUBA diving?

waterproof camera diving on AQUAPAC WATERPROOF CASE IPHONE 4 IPOD TOUCH CELL PHONE CAMERA BEACH
waterproof camera diving image

Sunnyboy

I'm looking for a compact digital camera which I can use both in and out of the water. Most of the good waterproof cameras which I have found are only rated to 10 meters, which is insufficient. Am I better off buying a regular camera and a waterproof case? I have seen some of these offered by Canon.

Answer
You're best off to do a little research on the camera you really want and then see if there's a decent underwater housing for it. Personally, I'd steer clear of the actual camera manufacturer's housings. They tend not to allow use of all the camera functions and they are usually only just good enough that they can claim a depth rating of 130ft max. You're better off protecting that camera investment by purchasing a decent housing like an IkeLite ( if it's available for your camera). They're rated to 200 feet and each is factory tested to pass that. I own a Canon A720IS, that canon does make the housing for, but it was so cheaply made that I opted for the IkeLite housing instead. That housing cost TWICE as much as the actual camera. But I know the camera is safe and that model does everything I want in a camera, both above and below.
As for amphibs ( cameras that are in their own housing such as Sea&Sea, or Bonica) I'd advise against unless you don't mind lugging a large housing around on the surface or what your photos will actually look like. Amphibs are a compromise solution. They don't take great above water shots and they don't take great underwater shots. They do both only "ok" as opposed to a higher end camera that you put in a higher end housing.
When you're looking for a camera, keep a few things in mind.
What's it's power consumption like? Changing batteries is impossible on a dive.
What's it's storage format and capacity? You can't swap out cards on a dive.
How easy is it to point and shoot? You're looking through a housing with a mask on your face, can you see what you're aiming at?
You may be wearing gloves when diving. Can you manipulate those function buttons on the housing easily?
What are the options for adding things like strobes, lens or video lights later? What about the actual camera modes? You may find yourself doing macro or wide angle pics. Maybe at night? Maybe in low vis....that onboard flash can then be your worst enemy since you may not have an option to disable it and all you'll get is backscatter.
My advice... choose ten cameras that do what it is that you intend on doing. Find out if a dedicated manufacturer of dive camera housings makes a housing for those cameras. Then choose from between the ones that do.

Answer
I have found Olympus and Canon to be excellent performers. But that said, assuming you pick your camera based on comfort of viewing and operating of the controls (which should be your 1st choice).
Do my 11x 14 test. The first day of ownership, read instructions thoroughly, take a few pictures and have an 11 x 14 print made that same day (cost app. $4.00) and judge the results. If you like them, sharp? good color?- keep the camera. If not return the camera, with original box, instruction book (not written in) & guarantee card (do not fill out or send in until satisfied).

I personally own a 15 yr. old Olympus and the one problem I had was my doing, but Olympus was more than helpful. So " biases test reports aside" Olympus is a great brand.

What Digital Camera Should I but If I am starting to get serious about taking pictures?

Em

I was looking into the olympus water proof cameras and I was wondering if waterproof cameras take good quality pics outside of the water? I am just starting to be intrested in taking pics and would like suggestions of good digital cameras. It would be nice to find a good camera for under 300$ and if it was water proof that would be best.

Answer
Waterproof cameras scare me because I hear FAR too often about leaks, even when they are brand new.

Apparently it is very easy to catch a tiny hair or some other object in one of the seals (e.g. the battery / memory card door), and that is enough to let water in.

I'd suggest buying extra warranty protection and trying it out pretty much right away if you intend to go swimming with it.

If you actually want to learn about photography, make sure your camera has the following:

Manual controls (aperture priority, shutter priority and fully manual)
a hot shoe for a decent flash
a view finder
bulb mode

How to unstick the playback button on my waterproof fuji XP?

Andi

the playback button on my camera is stuck down and i don't know how to fix it. the camera works fine except for the button. i would take the camera apart but i'm scared that i won't be able to seal it correctly so it is waterproof afterward. i tried sticking something between the side of the button but it didn't help. What should i do?

Answer
Call Fuji and arrange to send the camera to them for repair. If you have fooled with it, you may have voided the warranty. So be safe, include a copy of sales receipt and ask for an estimate should the repair not be covered under warranty. Cameras are not "do-it-yourself" products when it comes to serving or repairing.

this is the memory card I've been looking at: http://www.sandisk.com.au/products/memory-cards/sd/extremepro-uhs-1-95mbs/?capacity=16GB

I've been told by someone on here that my camera won't actually be able to fully utilise that memory card because my camera is not that advanced.

Should I be getting a class 6 instead?
I like the fact that this memory card is waterproof, and so is my camera, so if my camera leaks it wont be such a huge disaster.
and roughly the maximum MB/s that my camera could use, if you could make an estimate?

Answer
I think you'd be fine with a 45MB/s card at half the price. If you want to spend more on a card, consider getting a 32GB card. A 32GB 45MB/s card is still a little cheaper than the one you linked.

You might consider that a Sandisk card will last "forever" and you would be able to use it in any new camera you might buy in the future.

Help picking a good waterproof digital camera please.?

Q. I'm looking for a good point and shoot digital camera, that is water proof, takes video (longer than 10 seconds), I also want it to be able to take good indoor/darker photos because I don't want to lug my Cannon XS around all the time.
Here are some links I found...but I'm still stuck.

I would prefer it to be under 300, more like 200. But I can normally find a good sale to take it down a bit.
I keep thinking the Pansonic, but I read the video is hard to work with and the indoor stinks. But then I thought about the Olympus and I don't know.
Help me make a good decision?

im about to purchase a waterproof digital camera and need some help on deciding which to buy! i've narrowed my search down to three cameras.

I was hoping to get a video camera for my birthday and i was wondering whats the best kind thats not higher than 250

Answer
Well as a cinematographer I have used a lot of cameras but it narrows down to only a few I'd suggest for under $250. First is Somy DCR-SX45, It's about $200. I am
currently using one of theses as a secondary camcorder that I take everywhere instead of taking my Canon XLH1 everywhere.
The second camera I'm gonna suggest is waterproof which is the Kodak Playsport (Zx5), about $159.00. I use this camera when skiing/snowboarding, canoeing/kayaking, swimming, and anytime it is suppose to rain.

What is a good camera for backpacking?

Skillet007

Hey all, I do a lot of backpacking, kayaking, bicycling, etc. I was wondering what a good all around camera would be. I don't care if it is a point and shoot or something more professional. I just want some feedback!

Answer
Depends on the trip but I have a Nikon N65 35mm but when the trail gets rough or if theres water in the equation- storms, kayaking, fishing etc or if I`m rock climbing I go to my Olympus 770SW. Its lightweight takes great pics and is waterproof upto 33ft, freeze proof to 14*F, crush proof to 160 or 180 lbs can easily take a 6 foot drop on a hard surface. Its small enough to fit a shirt breast pocket but isnt difficult to find the buttons. They replaced the 770sw (which is 7.1 mega pixels) with the slightly more bulkier 1030SW (10.1 mega pixels, Crush proof to 220lbs)

Michael

Samsung HMX-U10
or
Panasonic HM-TA1
or
Kodak ZX1

May use will be for videoing while on holiday. I am currently favouring the Kodak model because it takes AA batteries so easy to switch out if run out of battery, but its only 720P unlike the other two which shoot in 1080P.

So which one would you recommend?
I do have a low budget of around $100 USD.

Answer
Check out Kodak Playsport Zx5 Video Camera
Shockproof, dustproof, and waterproof up to 10 ft
Full 1080p HD videos and 5 MP HD stills, with auto focus
Get sharper videos and less blur thanks to built-in digital image stabilization

I want a new camera. it needs to have a sports setting, be digital, and either be waterproof or i can buy a waterproof case that would fit it. it can't be too expensive. I would like it to be able to fit it into my pocket for nights out with friends. thanks!

Answer
Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera would be perfect for you.

I am a Canon diehard fan. But Canon will not have anything that compares to Kodak Playsport HD waterproof pocket video camera. At 1080P the video clip recording is acceptable. But, at 720p and 60 frames per second this camera rocks, the outcomes are great. I've applied it close to and in water, the blue filter helps beneath water. I am preparing to utilize this for our Disney World this holiday from the water parks.

This camera takes 5MP HD Stills, so now I've a camera that may get video and stills on demand moist or dry. I have other camera's inside the same class like Flip and Samsung each tend not to evaluate, even at 720p 60 frames per 2nd. $150.00 pricetag can also be really affordable.

Simple to carry, very person friendly to move files through the digital camera towards the personal computer or right to Youtube. Nightvision could be good but most of my recordings will likely be in Daylight. Bottom line fantastic digital camera and I've no cons to talk about.

I saw the underwater housings, but where can I find a water proof case/ camera bag?

Answer
I've walked considerable distances in the pouring rain with $3000 worth of gear in my Crumpler camera bag. No problem at all. And I imagine that all other brands offer a similar degree of weather protection. On the cheap, use any old bag but wrap your camera in a plastic bag first.
But if the camera absolutely, positively has to be water-proof... as in dunking it in a swimming pool... you will need an underwater housing. That, or take your chances with a Tupperware container.

Waterproof digital camera with viewfinder?

Sandra

I'm looking for a waterproof digital camera with a viewfinder - to make seeing the shot easier for older eyes and in bright sunlight. It doesn't need to take photos actually underwater, just be safe if it gets a dooking.

This question has been asked before and the answer at that time was that there weren't any, but I wondered if anything has become available meantime.

Answer
I did a quick scan and it appears there are no point and shoot waterproofs with viewfinder.

I like the fuji disposable waterproofs (about $7.00) but they are 35mm film.

The other alternative is to find the camera you like, with a viewfinder, and use a waterproof enclosure. There are bag style enclosures that work well for smaller cameras and are inexpensive. Some are model specific and some are universal.
