Scotland Horse Adventure?

Rachel

Me and my friend are planning to go on a 8 day horse ride (not with our horses) in Scotland in 2011. So what i am asking is, Have you ever been on something like this and was it all you wished for? Tell me your fun stories!

Answer
Scotland = rain. and lots of it. So be prepared to layer like crazy - you can go from a tank top to a parka in one day. Many trail rides will take you through water, so tall boots or chaps help if you get splashed.

Get some anti monkey butt or something to help ease the pain (btw this can also be used as dry hair shampoo if you are camping with no access to hair washing - not pretty I'll admit, but a ton better than oily locks!)

Depending where you go - it is amazing. I have ridden in the borders and the highlands. Rugged amazing scenery with picnics and rests taken in tumbledown cairns. Riding past lochs with smoke on the water and then stopping at a castle. Not to mention that I am over 21, so the pub stops were worthwhile too! (Got to make sure you have pie and chips even if you can't drink!)

Make sure you take some lessons before you go - you want to be able to have a canter or mad gallop sometimes! Also make sure that you are in the right group for your abilities - I have to ride with my non rider husband and although I love him, he can't ride well, so sometimes I am stuck at a walk when the terrain begs for speed!

And take waterproof disposable cameras!
