Traveling to Israel for 8 days. Itinerary is VERY full; we'll be on the go all the time. will be traveling w/ 9 and a 12 yr old. Will need a comfortable, light weight bag to carry around on a daily basis -- for passport, wallet, water bottle, camera, cell phone, glasses and other essentials. Prefer something that can be worn bandolero style for security. Any thoughts as to what product and where to purchase quickly? Many thanks!!

I got a bag for the same purpose, trip to India with 2 little kids.

Mine is a Tumi bag I found on clearance in Macys.

You should look into Tumi... they have the cross body style ones too.... very durable, waterproof, and very flexible for lots of stuff... I have their small tote, which has turned out to be a perfect purse and diaper bag all in one.

Tips for traveling in India?

Ruby Vlog

Hi everyone,

me and some friends are going to travel from Delhi to Goa in India, next September, going from city to city by public transport and sleeping in cheap hostels/backpacker hostels.
We are now looking for alot of information. I'm reading the Lonely Planet for India, but I think it's also important to hear what other people recommend.
Some questions: what sockets do they have in India? Where did you sleep? How much time did you need to acclimatise to the weather and culture? Did you go during the monsoon season? Do you have a website with your own travelstory? How much did you pay during your whole trip?

Thanks alot!

Ruben

Answer
Arright so this is it..

1) what sockets do they have in India? -- we use 220V pins D&M type sockets ..

Check out the map... http://users.telenet.be/worldstandards/electricity.htm If u'r from the blue area then u neednt bring a 'convertor'... Most electronic items such as mobile & camera chargers etc have a dynamic voltage range so u will be able to use them universally throughout the world,,All u need is a socket convertor..

http://www.adaptelec.com/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&products_id=320

2) Where did you sleep? -- In Delhi & Goa or (Mumbai etc) u dont need to afford good hotels..there are plenty of bagpackers stayin there...In Delhi the ''Paharganj'' Area is specially known for cheap hotels..there are plenty of foreign travllers stayin there so it wont be a problem..& Goa is like there are many places, u can ask just anyone there after u reach Goa...Goa is full of ready to help foreigners who can give u the best recommendations there (at that time..Recomendations change)..In smaller towns & cities u need to put up at some good hotel or resort as cheap hotels are not safe & not 'user friendly'...

3) Monsoon hits India -- Delhi~Goa during July end and might continue till August & September...But the intensity reduces from July to Sept... U might find semi flooded streets in August in India mainland but things clear by Sept for sure...Only occassional downpours might be there that's it...

4) How much time did you need to acclimatise to the weather and culture? --Its pretty damp, hot & humid... Actually best recommended time for India visit is Nov-March for North India & Dec-mar for South India... (if u havent taken the tickits, i think u shud postpone your Journey to Nov..) Cause then its dry & the weather is also fine & semi chill...23-30 Celcius..

5) How much did you pay during your whole trip? -- U can pay by Travellers Cheque (which u carry) or credit cards (not very much recommended as u are a foreigner u can be easily scammed).... Do carry Cash say atleast 1000$... Convert some of your currency (Euro or Dollar whatever) before comin to india... U have money convertors in Delhi & Goa so converting your money to Indian currency isnt a big problem... More than 10 million tourists visit India every year...So dont worry u'll not be ''alone''...

Recommendations -->

1) DONT stay in uber cheap hotels.. U'll end up getting sick when u'r back to your country... india is a hot country, try to take 'rooms' which have Air Conditioners... Atleast in Delhi...

2) Be ready to face millions of mosquitoes and similar insects, so u must buy 'mosqiito repellent body creams' or ''mosquito repellent mats'' etc..Buy them from India itself... Foreign brands might not work on Indian mosquitoes..its available even in the commonest streets of India...

3) Carry a Hand Sanitizer to use every now & then...

4) Carry an empty mobile phone..get an Indian sim card when u reach here... (if u plan to travel more than 1 month)..Its very easily to get sim cards..

5) have an uber strong & waterproof pouch for carrying internal docs such as VISA, passport, Tickits etc... try to have xerox of all of them..U might need in different places...

6) Drink only bottled water..sealed bottled water..not just any bottled water...Bottles cost from 10 INR to 25 INR...its a must if u dont wanna fall sick....

7) avoid street food ..Only certain places offer good quality street food ... Not all.. The only places where u see other foreigners eating, try to eat only there..i mean street foods...

8) Try to talk it out with fellow foreiners u meet on the 'travel sites'..they give u th best experiences & suggestions...

9) Dont wear Ultra mini skirts or clothes that show too much skin... Indians are not used to seeing that lol..Wear normal clothes as u'd wear when u visit your boyfriend's mother..lol

10) Be sceptical...U'll be scammed otherwise...Its a poor country with poor people tryin to make big...So dont trust anybody blindly...Since u'll be in a group, it'll be better..but still...

11) LP Travel book is really good & important...

12) Try to carry all the medicines u might need..The drug-group might be different in India...Also carry a medical prescription for those drugs u carry...

13) A a waterproof bagpack is must..Also a light waterproof if possible & also 3-4 big plastci bags (not necessary but recommended for emergency situations...)

Rest all daily accessories can be bought in India itself...

That's all i can think of now..U wanna know somethin more specific, u can message me again....
