What's a decent digital camera for vacation?

I'm going on vacation soon..beach resort. I want a decent digital camera.
Should I go with a waterproof camera?..what are the advantages?
Is the quality of a waterproof camera the same as a regular cam.?
Please recommend some really decent/great cameras..
I don't want to pay more than $200-250.

Ideas to waterproof my digital camera?

I'm going to the beach over spring break, and I'd like to bring my camera along and take pictures at the beach, but I'm afraid it might slip or accidentally fall into the pool or ocean. Any ideas how to keep it protected?

If not, are there any cheap disposable waterproof digital camera(ones I can go back and delete pictures before printing)?

There are cases you can buy from sporting stores that fit over cameras. Some are hard shelled and some are soft. I included a link at the bottom for Mountain Equipment Co-op. They've got a ton of stuff. There's a really crap camera at Walmart for $20 that's waterproof and digital. But it's got nooooo picture quality whatsoever. I would suggest the cases. Or just be extra careful with it. Then again, there's always the good old Ziploc bag. hahaha.
