I want to buy a waterproof camera for a project I am doing. I honestly don't know much about them or where to get one. I really don't want to spend a lot but I want a great camera for amazing photos and I am willing to change my price range which the highest at the moment being $600. it would be great if you could tell me about them, where to get them, what is the best to use, etc. I would really appreciate it.

Answer
There are inexpensive waterproof cameras that cost as little as $125 like the Nikon Coolpix S31.

There is a Nikon Coolpix AW-110 which includes GPS, WiFi and can operate deeper than the S31. 18 m for 60 minutes vs. 5 m for an unspecified time

Sure, you can buy a $300 P&S camera and a $300 underwater housing, but then you will have your underwater camera in two pieces that must be combined when you dive.

Canon, Olympus, Pentax also make such underwater cameras. The cool thing is that they are also shockproof and cold weather proof in some cases.

Spend some time on those websites and see which of those companies make the camera that is best for you

What camera should I use for Parasailing?

Drake

I'm going to go parasailing this November, and I was wondering what type of camera I should use.

I'm not going to use a DSLR or a point and shoot.

Should I use a waterproof throw a way camera or a normal throw a way one? Are waterproof cameras good for only underwater shots? How well do normal throw a way pictures come out?

Answer
Good idea to not use a DSLR or standard P&S in a harsh environment; they don't do well. There are several waterproof and shockproof digital cameras available, such as the Nikon AW-100.

Since there is some water danger in parasailing, getting the waterproof single use camera is the better choice.

Waterproof cameras are useable out of the water.

Single use cameras get OK pictures. They do use a 35mm film, but the lens is usually cheap plastic junk. I found some results of single use cameras on Flickr.

And finally there are some single use digital cameras. Just mentioning them, not recommending them.
