My grandma is going there this year. (yes don't say she's nuts, I know she's going to freeze her butt off)
Anyhow, she was telling me how she needed to go to burlington coat factory and also the ugg store to get a pair of uggs. I'm like um grandma you're need to dress a lot warmer and dryer than that... Then she's like oh and I need a camera. I'm like yeah you'll need to protect it too. They're 75 and 78 so I doubt they're doing much on the island. Who knows though, they're in pretty good shape for their age. And she's now made me want to go there before I turn 50..... I'd actually want to go off the boat to photograph so yeah.

So does anyone know what to bring clothes/stuff wise if not have a good checklist so I can help her?
PS it's a 3 week (or longer) cruise to South America and to Antarctica...

Answer
They will be going between Nov - Mar which is the "summer" tourist season.
I suspect - from the use of your words - they will be on a larger cruise ship which will not allow them to land!

We have been 3 times and the most important thing is to land and walk about with the penguins, elephant seals, explore the abandoned whaling stations, visit the research stations etc etc. In this case you need good protective warm+waterproof clothes/wellington boots for "wet landings" etc. as the weather can - and does - change in an instant! Ugg boots would be useless!

If they are staying on the ship then adequate "cold weather" clothes from home will be OK as they can go inside from the open deck and have a warm occasionally. Wearing pyjamas under clothes and thick socks will be adequate!

Have a look at the cruise details.
If it is a ship with more than 200 passengers no-one is allowed to land!
200 passenger ship guests go ashore on 2 batches of 100.
100 passenger ships all go ashore at the same time so you get twice the time on land!
If it is a smaller ship email me (address on profile page) and I can tell you exactly what is needed.

If they have been lead to believe they will land - but can't - ask for money back and go on a (more expensive) smaller ship as above! This is probably the only time they will go there - make it a REAL trip, not a FRUSTRATING trip!

What camera do you think is best for me?

Q. So...the other question like this that I posted...DIDN'T work for me :) so here it is again

I'm a begginer. Here are some details that I think would fit for me:

-- Waterproof (I love the ocean :D)
-- 5 to 8 megapixels
-- Something small and portable
-- Easy to use -not too complicated
-- Doesn't run out of batteries too quick because I like to travel and drive to all beaches
-- One that lasts long because I use to use Exilim and they break within a year and a half
-- One thats easy to transfer photos to your computer
-- One that is great at taking pictures of animal and nature (also people :P)
-- Under $200(Trying to save some $$$)

THX very much!

Answer
When you have waterproof without casing on your list it automatically limits you to two brands. Olympus and Pentax are the only companies making cameras that are waterproof straight out of the box. Olympus' Stylus SW-series is exclusively waterproof (and shockproof, freezeproof, crushproof) and Pentax has two models, the W30 and W60, that are waterproof.

When you then add the $200 budget limit into the equation you end up with nothing. After a quick look, all current models are $230+ from various retailers, safe and unsafe. Your expectations simply cannot be met. The budget also prevents you from looking at other cameras with seperate waterproof casings. Casings tend to cost as much or more than the camera itself.

You could give underwater bags a try, these cost roughly $30-50, though I can't tell you the risks involved.

Refine your requirements and you'll get the answers you seek.
