waterproof cameras test image
Sugar Ray
I am a kayaker, but I don't care about waterproof cameras. I would rather have the quality. Here's what I am looking for: a very clear picture that I can record to a DVD, at least 2 hours of shooting, good sound quality. Here is what I don't care about: a significant zoom function, numerous manual controls, a fancy lcd screen, anything over 800 dollars. Thank you.

Answer
I have found Olympus and Canon to be excellent performers. But that said, assuming you pick your camera based on comfort of viewing and operating of the controls (which should be your 1st choice).
Do my 11x 14 test. The first day of ownership, read instructions thoroughly, take a few pictures and have an 11 x 14 print made that same day (cost app. $4.00) and judge the results. If you like them, sharp? good color?- keep the camera. If not return the camera, with original box, instruction book (not written in) & guarantee card (do not fill out or send in until satisfied).
I personally own a 15 yr. old Olympus and the one problem I had was my doing, but Olympus was more than helpful. So " biases test reports aside" Olympus is a great brand.
