I am looking for a good waterproof digital camera 9+ mega pixels that is fairly durable and can go at least 10ft down. I want to use it to go snorkeling and other miscellaneous underwater activities. Also I do like to customize my pictures a little bit.

Thank You for your help!

Both a friend of mine and I have Olympus... Hers is a bit different than mine but mine is the Stylus 1030W and I couldn't be happier with it!!! Its Waterproof up to 33ft. Shockproof, Freeze proof and 10.1MP but i think Olympus came out with one thats a little better and more expensive... I have has mine for over a year and have dropped it mannnnnnyyyy times and its a champ!

I know in that line they have a bunch of different models... Mine is also metal and very durable and i just love it!!! My friends is not metal and pink and she has had hers for like 2 1/2 years and still loves it!!!

I can't remember how much it was i think around 175 but i know if you get it on ebay it will be cheaper with a bunch of extras and can get a warrenty (I did). And you can customize a bit to (back&white, Shopia, Frames, Red eye, Crop, label etc...)

What kind of waterproof camera is the best?

I love swimming and diving and live on one of the cleanest lakes in Michigan! You can see the bottom from up to 35 ft away! I think I could take some pretty neat pics! What kind p camera would be the best? I would like something rated for pretty deep seeing as how we free dive up to 40ft down.

Answer
Some of the compact waterproof cameras are rated for about 40 ft, but that is pressing the limits. These cameras are not great performers in low light. You could get better results with a better camera and an underwater housing. The cost is higher, and there is not always a compatible housing for every model. For diving it is important to have the combo properly weighted for neutral buoyancy. Ikelites I think usually are by design. Some manufacturer's housings are positive buoyancy (good for boaters) that need an added weight set. You need to have some little silica gel packs inside to prevent condensation, as the deeper water is usually colder.
