I like the spl model, but not the price.. what do you guys think??...and what type of lens is recommended?
Answer
I just happened to read an article that mentioned housings for the 7D today. Typical of such housings, the one housing mentioned (the Sea & Sea MDX-7D) costs twice as much as the camera body itself. Street price is roughly $3800 for the MDX-7D. Sea & Sea is a well known manufacturer of underwater camera gear but, a quick check of B&H Photo of NYC, New York (http://www.bhphoto.com) yields a couple other options but, they aren't especially cheap either. Those results are as follows:
Ikelite, 6871.07 eTTL Housing f/ Canon EOS 7D

Aqua Tech, CO-7 Sports Housing f/ Canon EOS 7D

Aquatica, Underwater Housing w/ Dual Fiber Optic Cable Ports f/ Canon 7D

Best camera for filming underwater?
Clear Blue
I shot a music video completely underwater about 8 months ago that turned out amazing! (you can view it here: http://www.lx-goods.com/videos/blorr_seven_sisters/). We shot it entirely on one canon 7D camera with an underwater housing unit that was costly to rent. I want to do some inexpensive photography underwater for a new project and wondered if anyone has a decent and inexpensive option for shooting underwater?
Answer
I have heard good things about the Canon D10 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/605229-REG/Canon_3508B001_PowerShot_D10_Digital_Camera.html
If I had the money though (~$6,000-$8,000), I would go with a DSLR underwater case/lens port/lighting system like you rented. That's one of the reasons I haven't taken up scuba diving....I would want to take my camera with me and I can't afford the shell.
