Mask (+ snorkel)
Fins
Exposure protection
Weight system
Cylinder
Regulator (including cylinder contents gauge)
Buoyancy compensator (BCD)
Alternate air source (for dive buddy)
Depth gauge + dive timer, or dive computer

For communication and safety, he would also be well advised to carry:
Underwater noisemaker (tank banger, rattle, air-horn)
Dive slate

Reel + marker buoy

What kind of scuba water proof camera should i get?

I would like one, because i really love the ocean and i am going south african shark diving, in June, so i would like to to have a good camera that can take pictures underwater, and good quality pictures, and that it can zoom in fairly well. a cheap price would be nice.

I would suggest one of the Liquid Image products for your diving needs. some of the masks have attachment for lighting. The built in Mask/Camera would be idea because it can be a hands-free system. Still Camera or Video option, one less thing for you to carry or worry about. Photos of everything you see at your point of view.

You need to figure out what your diving requirements are, what you want and finally what you can afford. What kind of diving and how deep you will be going and how much equipment you will need to carry.
