i want a regular nice camera becuz i am not in the water 24/7 but when i do go underwater i want to be able to take underwater pics by using a underwater case over my camera.....what types of cases are good? or do cases even work?
hope u can help!!!
Answer
It depends on what you mean by 'case', the cheapest underwater case is basically a zip-lock bag, they are 'good' for about 1m.
'proper' underwater housings are available for most if not all well known makes of camera (canon, sony, fuji etc) and have depth ratings from a few meters to over 100m for the top end products. The greater the depth rating the greater the price, you can expect to pay at least as much as you did for the camera for a 40m rated housing.
Usually they replicate all of the functions of the camera, and are protected by single or double o-rings which need to be checked and greased before each use.
One thing to keep in mind is that any depth rating will be a static depth, i.e. just sitting on the bottom at that depth. Any knock or impact will impart a significant force which can flood the casing even within its limits.

Answer
No, that camera is not waterproof. You would need to get a waterproof case for it.
If you want waterproof cameras you'll need to look at these:
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_digital_sw.asp
EDIT: In response to your additional information, those underwater modes are for if you have it in a case. Since the lighting is different underwater it has modes to take the best pictures possible down there.
2nd EDIT: Here's a quote from the list of features: "Underwater shooting up to water pressure equivalent of 40m possible in combination with optional underwater case PT-037". That case is $280US on Amazon.
