Most waterproof underwater digital cameras aren't that good of a camera. They are solid performers and built to seal out water, but the image quality is not that great compared to regular cameras. I think if you want the best images, you would have to spend some money.
I would recommend buying a good point-and-shoot camera, and then buy the underwater casing for that camera. The case can sometimes be just as expensive as the camera itself! So basically you might have to spend $200 on a camera, and then spend and additional $200 on the waterproof case.
You might want to look at the Canon PowerShot A720IS. I believe it sells for less about $200 at the big box retailers, and there is also an underwater case available. I've included the links below.

I go aquifer / cave diving a lot in the desert. Anyway, I would like to take some pictures sometimes while inside and the disposable waterproofs don't really work that well. Does anybody own a waterproof digital? Any suggestions as to which one to get? If so, pro's and con's would be appreciated. Much thanks!
