Underwater shots??????????????????

DJCJ_16

i need some underwater shots for a video i'm doing and is there anything to protect my camera underwater?

Answer
How much protection do you want, how much can you afford and how deep are you going?

You can get away with using a couple of heavy duty zip-lock bags for multiple layers. You can go about 2 feet deep. Video quality will not be so good because the camcorder has to see through the plastic.

Or... you can go to TAP Plastics and make a box with a rubber seal and hinged top - but getting to the controls will be impossible.

If you do either the first or second one, and your camcorder gets soaked and unusable, tough luck.

Or... you can get a waterproof bag from Ewa-Marine designed for this purpose...

Or... you can get a hard-case underwater camera housing - generally these are expensive, and they are rated to go quite deep - you will need lights, too. Ikelite makes good ones.

Since you did not tell us which camcorder, there's not much more we can help you with. Sony has some kits for their consumer cams...

underwater photography/video Canon S95 or GoPro HD HERO2?

Hanoo

What would be the best camera in terms of photo quality UNDERWATER? Is the sensor size of S95 larger than that of the GoPro hero 2? I understand that the GoPro is much better at stabilizing the video but wouldn't the S95 have more advantage over the GoPro in terms of adjusting manual exposure etc?

I don't want to buy a housing for my DSLR as a housing for my camera a Canon 550D is really expensive. but price is not an issue for the S95 + housing or GoPro hero 2...i jux want to know which is better out of the two. thanx
Ps i knw the S95 is not water proof thats y im buying the Canon WP-DC38 housing along with it. jux wanna knw which is better...ill go for the most votes
I live in the Maldives. So basically i'll be shooting close ups of surfers, the reef (fish n coral) ill be snorkeling

Answer
I am pretty sure the canon s95 is not water proof. And anyway the GoPro HD HERO2 is by far the best choice. It is currently ranked at number 1 in the top 100 underwater cameras on amazon. Some of its functions which impress me are:

1. Simple Language-Based User Interface
2. Sharper Professional Glass Lens
3. Faster Image Processor
4. 11MP Sensor
5. Full Wide 170º, Medium 127º, Narrow 90º FOV (Field of View) in 1080p and 720p
6. Professional Low Light Performance
7. 11MP, 8MP and 5MP Photos with Full 170º and Medium 127º FOV
8. 10 Photos Per Second Burst
9. 1 Photo Every 0.5 Seconds Time-Lapse Mode
10. Natural and High Wind Audio Modes
11. 3.5mm Stereo External Microphone Input
12. Wi-Fi BacPac + Wi-Fi Remote Compatible
13. Long range remote control of multiple cameras
14. Wi-Fi Video Preview + Playback on Smartphone / Tablet / Computer
15. Live streaming to the web

Im sure you wont be let down by its waterproof features.
