I want to do a documentary about sea life and this would require scuba diving i am planning to go pretty deep in an ocean so im not sure what type of waterproof camera would hold up that deep.Where can i find one qualified for this without spending 1000's

Answer
The camera is not the expensive part, its the housing.

assuming you are a sports diver you will probably go no more than 40m you need a housing that will cope with a minimum of 80m. there are a few companies that make housings for most camera makes. They are not cheap, Sure you can get cheap housings for cameras, but do you want to take the risk. at 40m the pressure on the housing is a lot, and any faults in the case/seals, will let the water pour in or implode the case.

Good luck

Is it worth getting a waterproof camera?

Q. or is it better to just get a waterproof case to go around your camera? I've read some reviews and waterproof cameras aren't coming out well.... has anyone had any experience with them? Any underwater photo examples?
also this is the camera i'm thinking to get....? what do you think any good?

Also is this any good for general use too...? I've read that in reviews also that for general use the photo quality is poor?

Answer
When I dive, I use an old Nikonos V 35 mm camera.

These little P&S waterproof cameras that cost less than $400 are not designed for a serious underwater photographer. As long as you understand their limitations, then spend some more time doing your research.

NOTE: Read only professional reviews, not those from disappointed users who do not have a clear understanding of what to expect from such cameras.

Once you get below 1 meter, you start losing the reds and adding a red filter only makes your whole image red. This means you need to use some kind of flash when diving in order to get good colour in your shots

A good underwater housing for a dSLR will cost you about $3,000 for a starting point and more if you want to use more than one lens. Care and maintenance is critical to using any under water camera or housing
